Only so many times we can say it, but … are you in love with Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? yet? You should be! It’s one of those that gets sweeter with each listen. Spending time in Norway to get his baby healthcare did amazing things for Kevin’s outlook on things, the depth of his writing, and, somehow, the sweet frivolity of the album’s faaabulous hooks. This is the first vid from the record, just as glam as the track’s synthy refrain (and their live show): set at high school play with Kevin in tight, white spermy-guy body suit, sparkly face paint, and a giant crab claw. Isaiah Washington’s head would explode if he saw this. (Via P4K)

I find the album beyond irritating! But, maybe not as irritating as this video. My copy is heading straight for the used bin. I’ve been a fan of OM in the past, but damn this shit just gives me a headache.
LOVE IT!!! if you look closely, you’ll see a ghost in the audience which is the same dead kid seen in the background of 3 men and a baby.
Man, that video is awesome! I love the song even more now. Sure beats the school play in that Shins vid.
Whatever.
Of Montreal is catchy and poppy as fuck. Maybe not as electronically poppy, but poppy nonetheless. They always have been, from Cherry Peel to Sunlandic Twins. It’s frustrating to read so many reviews and comments (not talking about you Warbler) about how of Montreal have lost their stature as a great indie band because they are progressing and changing. It is a shame that their earlier works are much more likely to go unnoticed now due to the fact that so many of today’s listeners are only used to hearing electro-dance floor-beats from Kevin and OM. In my oppinion, the best OM records are all pre-Satanic Panic, but just because the newer releases aren’t cut-copies of the older stuff doesn’t make them unlistenable or vomit-inducing. It’s perfectly OK to dislike the new record, or to even dislike the band. But, just because Kevin is leading OM into a different direction than what you would like doesn’t mean you should complain at every opportune moment about it. Just let them go. Maybe one day they’ll come full circle and put out another Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies.
Anyways, this video is hilarious and great, and I’m guessing the money used to make this video came from the Outback and NASDAQ commercials, way to go of Montreal. Warbler, I will gladly take that copy off your hands if you’re so digusted with it. If you’ve got the “Icons, Abstract Thee EP”, I’d love to take that too. I’ll be buying the 2xLP, so it’d be nice to get a CD copy aswell.
this comment is too long.
That video is balls to the wall brilliant. A bit quirky yes, but still brilliant.
Warbler, I’m sorry we fans are losing you. Its been nice.
Babies will do amazing things. There’s this Columbian singer, Andrea Echeverri, who wrote an album after having a baby & it’s awesome! Her group, Aterciopelados have a new album out, Oye. You can check it out on their My Space:

Maybe I was a little harsh. I do think that is the best song on the album. Barnes just comes across as this narcissistic spaz to me now. Maybe I just got too old… I was a huge OM fan in the early days. Seeing them play to 50 people in the late 90′s and pulling it off like a stadium rock show. I shouldn’t be a hater and it’s great that they are playing huge venues. I guess they just lost me when they went all dancey and Barnes started making the albums entirely on his computer. He’s a talented guy and I wish them well. Musical discourse is a good thing!
Anybody know why he’s waving a Norwegien flag while dancing with the revolutionaries around the fire?
can’t see the video thanks to the half-assed filters at work, but love the song. i’ve been a long time OM fan as well, and am so happy with the direction they’re going. i even will go as far as saying that this might be my favorite album yet. that said,i do hear you warbler… the last time i saw them was at Irving Plaza, last Fall. and to be honest, it was a rather lackluster show. not to discredit OM, it was just not the right venue.
Oh My God I just saw that Ariel Pink will be opening for the February Of Montreal show in my hometown. I am so doubly there now.

This band fucking sucks.
Their best song is that one that goes “Let’s go Outback tonight…”
How is OM suddenly getting so huge? I first heard about them two or three years ago, and my impression is that they were still quite unknown. Then there was a bit of buzz about the Sunlandic Twins, and suddenly this immense hype around the new album has burst out of almost nowhere. I’m not a huge fan, and certainly haven’t been tracking the band heavily, but this really seems like an explosion of press. How? What was the spur?
pml, it’s most recently probably due to the Outback song; even my best friend, who’s so not into this stuff, has been asking me if I know who sings it because it’s been stuck in his head for well over a week.
Plus, NASDAQ’s been using the OM song Everyday Feels Like Sunday for their longass commercial, and I believe another commercial used the exact same song.
Even further than that, they played a ton of Of Montreal tracks on The OC a while back when Sunlandic Twins came out.
Anyway, I’ve really really grown to love Hissing Fauna, but my God, they continue their streak of absolutely horrid music videos. Need I remind everyone of the absolutely retarded, fetus-punching video for So Begins Our Alabee?
The reason for their recent popularity is quite simple: Of Montreal’s new album is gold. Best album of the year so far.
Great work guys. More buzz and hype about average pop/rock albums in 2007!
i’ve loved this band since gay parade. i’ll take their jangly 60s inspired pop any day of the week. but i’ve got to say this new album might be my favorite.
kevin barnes may be a genius, actually. the man has the ability to create an album that really makes you feel schizophrenic. it’s amazing. i really feel like i’m on drugs when i’m listening to this even when i’m not. it’s so tense and sexual and beautiful. i’ve been listening to it for two months straight. can’t wait for march 9th.
indie pop disco drug psych rock
so good.
It seems Kevin’s been shopping for unitards at the same store as Borts Minorts.
I like em, I prefer sundlandic twins.

ha, of montreal has ‘status’ as a great indie band? gag me. they are just riding on silly stage antics and the weak E6 connection.
I’m kind of shocked that it hasn’t been mentioned that the brothers Chapman (of homestarrunner.com) made this video.
kyle,
I will gladly gag you.
This video and song are horrible. The video is just being weird to be different. There is no point or purpose, it is not artistic. It’s just nonsense.
