“…but take headliners Bjork, Rage Against The Machine, and RHCP…”

If you stopped reading at this point, you’d swear you’d time warped back to 1993.

  2. erik  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

pretty shitty line up right there

  3. landrew@landrew.com  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    Bjork and 1,000 other bands

  4. Coachella has continued to go downhill (for the most part) while Bonnaroo has continued to reinvent itself year after year–it almost makes me want to camp out for three days in the middle of Tennessee.

  5. ARIEL  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

I LOVE THE PEPPERS! THEY DON’T PLAY ENOUGH OF THEM ON THE RADIO THESE DAYS.

  6. Sean  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

I’m once again underwhelmed by the headliners (Tool last year? What were they thinking?) but the lineup is full of top quality – The Good The Bad The Queen, Jarvis, Tokyo Police Club, Klaxons, Erol Alkan, Placebo, LCD, etc.

  7. yvette  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    crappy.

  8. seriously? The peppers get so much air time it’s painful

  9. Hugo  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Pretty nasty lineup, but could they stage Coachella at a worse time? Mid-April? Fuck that, I’d take the Tennessee skyline over that anyday.

But I will admit, Bonnaroo needs to hit a grand slam on this one. Hopefully superfly will read the Bonnarumors and get some hints.

sarcasm? Learn it, know it, live it.

  11. gavin  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

hahaha, if you think that’s crap, you should come to a festival in england.
that’s a seriously good line-up right there. ritchie hawtin and bjork at the same fest? holy crap!
    forget the headliners!

  12. James  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Has anyone on this blog heard Anathallo? Thoughts?

  13. freejunktome  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

bloody hell, that lineup is peppered with bands stereogum drooled over last year. the lineup is awesomely diverse and a festival’s worth is not simply the sum of its headliners. what more do u elitist hipsters want?

  14. alvysinger  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

lord have mercy, what a lineup. the headliners are lame (save Bjork) but who gives a damn, that is a MAN of a lineup right there.

  15. how can anyone call this lineup crappy, it has so many fucking bands it’s ridiculous, anyone shitting on this is just trying to be contrary

  16. Chuck S.  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Too bad Indio is on the other side of the damn continent from St. John’s, Newfoundland….
New Pornographers, Interpol, Explosions in the Sky AND Sonic Youth at the same festival?
    It’s like my fucking dream…..

And I don’t care what anyone says, I’d be ridiculously excited to see Rage Against the Machine.

  17. Am I reading this correctly? Did it say Crowded House and Rage Against The Machine? I belive both bands are defunct, one because their drumemr hanged himself (CH) and the other because, oh I don’t know, their lead singer and guitar player hated each other?

  18. Jesse, you read that right. Still not sure why crowded house aren’t a headliner but bjork is, something seems wrong there.

  19. Todd  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    Cornelius. Nuff said.

  20. coachella fella  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

it could be better as far as headliners, but there are a lot of smaller acts that kick ass here. and a lot of bigger non-headlining names that are sick, too. and let’s not forget, they always continue to add names right up until the actual event. last year’s first announcement didn’t have Daft Punk or Madge on it. there’s still potential.

  21. coachella fella  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

and Damon and Jarvis are both gonna be there as well. maybe we’ll get to see Jarvis’ ass.

  22. Todd  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    Cornelius. Nuff said.

  23. I hope Crowded House’s set is one song played over and over for 45 minutes.

  24. i feel like i need to say this 10 times a day- if you’ve ever actually been to coachella, you know that the real action takes place either in the late afternoon or DIRECTLY OPPOSITE the “headliners”.

  25. Dude…Roky Erikson is playing too?!!?

Seriously, that in itself is amazing. let alone having sonic youth, bjork, explosions in the sky and RATM play the same festival

  26. Tony G  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Why don’t they host this shit at a casino or the old folks home? Or the Betty Ford Clinic? Lame-ass.

  27. The Dan  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Placebo are so awesome they’re apparently appearing twice.

  28. The Jesus and Mary Chain!

  29. Scatman Crothers  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, Y’ALL.

  30. “Has anyone on this blog heard Anathallo? Thoughts?”

absolutely. I put their new record, Floating World, as my favorite of ’06 in the Gummy award. Go buy it – has some of the most amazing packaging I’ve seen in a long time. Beautiful, complex music with lots of great rhythms and inventive instrumentation. I can’t stop listening to it. They’re amazing live, too.

  31. does anybody know if this is the final list, or is goldenvoice still trying to get some last minute acts?

  32. shoegaze45  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Madonna ruined last years festival…now the RHCPs can ruin this years fest with their lame fans and watered-down, rock joke as well…

yeah, i’ve been a fan of them for a while, i can’t for the life of me understand why they don’t have more hype behind them, i think they are one of the most under-rated bands out there…

    THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN.

That pretty much nails it for me.

  37. coachella pulled the poster with jesus and mary chain from their site. good thing someone sent me a screen cap- phew!

  38. Julieta Venegas? Cool, but why not Andrea Echeverri? Just listen to her stuff…it’s awesome! http://www.myspace.com/aterciopelados

  39. sparkl  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

thanks for the heads up…. no dubstep :(

  40. Julieta Venegas? Cool, but why not Andrea Echeverri? Just listen to her stuff…it’s awesome! http://www.myspace.com/aterciopelados

  41. derek  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Enough with the Andrea Echeverri, dumbass

  42. if it were andrea echeverri, it would be aterciopelados to support their latest album oye, but it’s julieta venegas that has the better album….sorry :(

  43. ouchal  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

not all the mexican music sucks like julieta venegas… really.

Mexico is sorry about julieta venegas at coachella.

  44. Jess  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Manu Chao, Bjork, WIllie Nelson, Regina Spektor. Would love to see all of them, but RHCP totally negates any awesomeness they might have brought.

“Has anyone on this blog heard Anathallo? Thoughts?”

I haven’t heard any of Anathallo’s records, but I saw them live once. I have to admit, it was an entertaining performance, but it’s not the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard.

  47. latin acts I would have taken, Babasonicos, Kinky and Cerati over Venegas, but what the hey…

    also.

Rolling Stone has The Smashing Pupmkins as rumored late entry.. for whatever thats worth.

  48. Kristina  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

I know I’m a bit late on this one, but I have to agree with what was said about Anathallo. I saw them live at the end of last year and they were fucking amazing. Brilliant live show and talented vocalists/musicians. The percussion was fascinating. It all meshed very well together.

…what I’m trying to say is, why aren’t they more popular?

  49. Ryan  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Crowded House have reformed. You Yankees better appreciate ‘em!

  50. Crowded House reforming is reason enough for me to go all the way to Caoachella.
New Porn, Arcade Fire, Fountains of Wayne…Awesome!

I’m surprised WILCO isn’t on the list though.

  51. Patrick  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

I’m wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with of Montreal. They were listed on the KROQ page, which seemed to be pretty much accurate, but they’re not on the official poster.

    What gives?

  52. Anon  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Love Crowded House, hate Coachella. They are no other tour dates to be found anywhere on the net though. What to do, what to do…

  53. It’s a nice lineup but not enough to make me think about crossing the Atlantic unlike last years!

  54. DeadGuy  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

Andrea Echeverri’s solo album is not really like Aterciopelados, it’s way more pop/easy listening. All songs are dedicated to her daughter so they’re mostly cute love tracks.

Which is fine, but not as good as Julieta Venegas. It’s just trendy to dis her because she’s huge in Mexico. If all popular music sounded like JV I wouldn’t have any trouble with that. Listen to Bueninvento or older Tijuana No/Amores Perros sntrk if you’re worried about your indie cred.

  55. http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003535555

apparently crowded house isn’t a one off show, but they’re going to be going on tour.

  56. indio  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2007

    FUCKIN AY MATE>:”:{D}{DS{O

    COACHELLA ROCKS MY SOCKS

    this is overstimulating

i will die of trauma the day of when i want to see 5 bands at the same time

  57. kelly  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

The main headliners Bjork, Rage, and RHCP make this year’s Cocharella seem like a 90s nostaglia festival. I don’t think the Pumpkins rumor is true because Rage is going to be the big reunion story here and Billy won’t want to be upstaged, plus Lolla in Chicago is a more likely place. Overall, a good mix of bands and plenty I would pay to see.

  58. Lesleigh  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

Blonde Redhead’s playing locally. I do appreciate so many of the bands that play Coachella booking gigs in San Diego. Very nice. I wish EITS would do the same thing.

Glad I got to do Coachella in 2006. It was awesome, regardless of Madonna…can anyone say Daft Punk?

If you’re contemplating going, just go! You will not regret it one bit. I didn’t exactly love the unforgiving sun and heat (98-100 daily) of the Coachella Valley, but that’s what made part of the memories.

  59. big fan  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

    INTERPOL!!!! YOU WILL BE MOVED!!!

  60. INDIE  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

INTERPOL GUYS!! C’MON!! HAS ANYONE SEEN THEM LIVE??? THEY WILL MOVE YOU…..NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT!!!

  61. I just wish I wasn’t poor! Anathallo, The Feeling, Rufus, Interpol, Placebo, The Rapture, !!!

I mean seriously? This is fabulous. I don’t think it’s possible to be in love with EVERY band on this lineup, but gosh did they come close to completely nailing it for me!!!!!

  62. Ryann E.  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

Bjork and Rufus on the same day. I could care less about the rest.

  63. matt  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

let me tell you, i’ve been to two coachellas in the past and by the time the headliners come on, you are NOT going to care which crappy band from the 90s is headlining. spending all day rocking out in the desert is exhausting and you will NOT want to fight with the stoners doing the hippy dance in the back to get a slightly better view. the real funs in the day.

  64. mydknightz  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2007

Wow I’ve enjoyed hatemongering before, but this RHCP thing has to stop. As I recalled they were the saving grace on night 2 (Bestie Bys, night 1) that kept Coachella ’03 from being a complete funeral viewing. Or maybe I was just the only one not Sh-sh-shaking when Rooney played, OH but I’m sure Bjork can fucking rock the house a whole lot better…

Ah…Coachella.. i remember seeing ol Janes Addiction all those years ago (who kicked rectum, btw). As Perry took his swig of wine to start the show a large date rapist meathead with glowsticks cried out “DRINK that red wine YOU SON OF A BITCH!”, with all the grace and charm of a wheezing fart…Precious.

This is an amazing line up! Those of you who think it’s shitty just don’t know enough music

  70. did you whiners even read the whole list or did you just glance at the headliners and start complaining? this is a MUCH better line up than last year AND it’s three days. the good the band and the queen? peter bjorn and john, amy winehouse, !!!, sonic youth, air, willie nelson, jesus and mary chain, lcd, tokyo police club, silversun pickups… sooo many amazing bands are playing.

and i don’t think that madonna ruined the festival last year. all of the idiots ran away and i got to watch mogwai with no irritating background noise and only like 100 other people. god bless madonna.

  71. I like a good festy as much as anybody but it seems festivals are overdone these days. The smaller the venue the better the show and with all those people only a small few will have a good spot to experience the music. Each band will only get to play for half an hour. Lame, lame, lame. On the other hand, I’d go just to see Rage Against the Machine reunited.

  72. Red Hot Chili Peppers are the new Jethro Tull. It’s true.

  73. Sold on the lineup .. can’t wait for Rage .. never been to Coachella, will be flying in from JFK to LAX and renting a car for the ~2.5hr drive .. and camping .. any TIPS for the actual venue itself ? What to bring, best tent spot, any of those necessities that might be useful ? Also whats the score with no alcohol or cooking allowed in the camping areas ? THANKS !!

  74. Robert  |   Posted on Feb 5th, 2007

Why does no one think Rage is a big deal? They could be the best band of the last 20 years, hands down. If only I didnt live in damn North Carolina…..

  75. Lily  |   Posted on Feb 19th, 2007

I read that they aren’t gonna announce it until their shows in California around the same time/place have sold out… but that they’re definitely coming. I mean, it’s on their MySpace.

  76. this is going to be an amazing show. I’m so excited to see rage

  77. I was expecting another CYHSY appearance, and some other GREAT bands such as Wilco, Kinky, Midlake, Sufjan Stevens, Sunset Rubdown, Architecture In Helsinki… anyway i’m going. Klaxons and CSS kicks ass!!
