Last year’s Taiga was an unfortunately overlooked record from Boredoms drummer Yoshimi P-We’s side project, ambitious even by their erratic standards. If you’ve listened to “Umo” before and thought “well that’s a tribal beat,” this video is for you. Rather than feature the four lovely ladies of Japan’s OOIOO, the vid is full of footage of falling trees, prancing gazelles, and stop-motion figures banging the shit out of a communal drum. And they look like this:

Pretty tribal. Watch it here.

the OOIOO record is fantastic…and as mentioned, criminally overlooked…just the sort of stuff stereogum should be covering (instead of lindsey lohan and justin timberlake)
…also, congrats to ripper for reminding us that yes, the arcade fire have an album. has nothing to do with this video, jackass.
lol@ed, you nincompoop, it was put here at the top of stereogum so that people notice it
you’re criminally stupid if you didn’t get that

Taiga really is a solid record. The Pitchfork review today really surprised me; I don’t see how anyone could dislike it.
Seeing Taiga in the bottom slot on Pitchfork broke my heart. Sure, it isn’t their finest album, but … it’s OOIOO; so far they’ve only done beautiful things. Ugh.
T, you seriously don’t see how anyone could dislike a load of indiscriminate noise? Ugh indeed.
