Did you tune in for last night’s American Idol? Hell you know even W. was sneaking a peek before he walked the corridor and congratulated Pelosi. Well if you watched, you remember the heavy-set, goateed, “Stormy Monday” singing man from Memphis — possessed of not just the best voice of the night, but the best name taboot (Sundance Head!). And as Sundance mentioned, his dad had a big radio hit back in the day and was a “dancin’ fool.” No shit, Sundance! Check out young Head’s dad, Roy, busting the craziest foot-shuffling, Head-to-the-floor dance you’ve ever seen while singing “Treat her Right.” Idol needs more Head. (via PopWatch)

  5. a friend  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2007

That’s his given name, Jason Sundance Head.

  6. i thought Melinda Doolittle was a far superior singer!!! but this guy is my second favorite…lol

  7. Roy Head was and still is the REAL DEAL!!!
Treat Her Right has always been one of my favorites. Roy Head was a country star in the 70′s and 80′s with lots of hit songs including The Most Wanted Woman,Come To Me, Now You Seee Him Now You Don’t. Awesome voice and if you ever saw him live you’ll never forget it as he is the best showman of his era BAR NONE!

Congrats Sundance you are the bomb! I know Roy and Caroline are very proud of you as is all of Texas!!!

  8. Sundance Head! Is not only a freaking wonderful singer but he is sooooooooooooooooo sexy he makes me quiver!

Jason I think you are the best. I think you should sing “Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay” by Sam Cooke. You will WOW them – it was meant for you. GOOD Luck

I just wanna thank “Stereogum.com for doing this with respect to my Godson, “Sundance” and his dad, Roy !
I’ve worked with many an entertainer, and out of all of them, Roy Head is the best at “Havin Fun at what he Loves Most” !

    Thank you very much!

Whoa! That man can dance and sing! I hope Sundance really brings it on this week! I sure like him.

  12. Linda Hood  |   Posted on Feb 23rd, 2007

I only hope Sundance or his family reads this because I feel it would be helpful in helping him win.
I know he has the talent, but it is not coming through on TV.
He needs to have more of a clean cut look, he is too heavy and short to wear a gotee. It just makes it worse. Stop wearing all the dark gloomy colors and the baggy jeans. Tighten up and get some cheery looking shirts. I’m pulling for you but I’ve heard these comments from alot of our friends. You have the talent – use it. Sing the blues, sing something lively. Get into it. It was good seeing Roy in the crowd last night.

  13. Laura  |   Posted on Feb 23rd, 2007

After watching Roy in this clip-I feel safe in saying that Sundance sings and dances like his mom, and I mean no offense to her. I really dont think that Sundance inherited the talent his dad has….sorry.

  14. Way to go Sundance…..do the blues, but not the MOODY BLUES. Your ballads will rock, but get to Simon, Randy, and Paula with some great upbeat first. I must say whatching your dad do “Treat her Right” is a treat for me….maybe he would consider loaning you the song for one night….you would tear the joint up….Paula would be dancin’ on the table.

  15. Debbie  |   Posted on Feb 24th, 2007

As another Porter-ite, I agree with other comments that your talent isn’t coming through on TV, Sundance. Use the stage. How about doing “Mustang Sally” one of your best? Rock out on stage and show them you can hang with the best! Good luck!

  16. taina  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Sundance, sing us a Meatloaf tune – your voice was created for it! Oh heart, be still!

  17. Sally  |   Posted on Mar 1st, 2007

Sundance really rocked it last night. I haven’t been this excited about a singer since Buddy Jewel on Nashville Star!

I also like you because you are my Son’s twin. It is so uncanny how much you two look alike!

Good luck, I have all my friends and family voting for you.

  18. Best wishes Sundance! I met you at a George Thorogood concert last year. (You were gonna’ kick Mike Verron’s ass! LOL)

Stop by & visit when you’re in town.

    Sincerely,

    Brian

  19. this video rocks, I saw roy in the 70′s duing his country days, what a great show. Seems he had 4 or 5 top 40 country songs back then, He was all over the country radio. I believe most wanted womwn was a top 10. Some of his pop/r&b were great too, just that that monster hit over shadowed eveything else.
For have a #2 hit battle with the beatles for 8 weeks off a tiny tiny label is a feat in itself.

Roy is STILL the best in the business. I work with a band that does shows with Roy and he is amazing. He will always be a legend. And Sundance you go son!!!!!!! Your the best idol ever has had to offer.

  21. Someone  |   Posted on Mar 2nd, 2007

sundance you ROCK, oh and your dad’s a great dancer.

  22. Kenneth T.  |   Posted on Mar 3rd, 2007

Sundance Head is truly a legend in the making. I have every certainty that he will win American Idol, provided, he does not stray from what he was clearly born to sing Blues/ Rock. He is fantastic and quite a fresh change from the putrid balladeers of the day. Would love to see him do Screaming Jay Hawkins, “I Put A Spell On You” on idol. He’d bring the walls down. Well done Sundance, and all the very best go with you!

    Hey,
    Sundance,
If you want a step up on the competition
do LOVE IS ALIVE by Gary Wright.
    Perfect for you.

Sundance i can’t believe you didn’t make the final 12, the show has to be fixed. i’m done watching it.Please keep singing i hope someone out there gives you a chance. The world needs to hear that voice.

  25. Maureen  |   Posted on Mar 8th, 2007

Sundance I am shocked that you didn’t make the top 12!!!!!!!!!!! You deserve to be there….I truly believe you will get a deal and we’ll be hearing you on the radio!!!! You have a wonderful talent and the world needs to hear you!

  26. Sally  |   Posted on Mar 8th, 2007

I am so upset that Sundance got voted off. If you ever produce a CD I will buy it. You were the best guy there. Keep going after your dream — you already have a fan base.

My family was very sad to see you go tonight, Sundance! My daughter cried! You look exactly like her dad, who is also a fantastic singer / songwriter / musician, and she doesn’t get to see him often.
AI was merely a small stepping stone for you!
Check out this twin of yours on Myspace. I don’t have the exact URL, look up King Tree Music. The resemblance is uncanny!!

There had to have been a glitch in the system. There’s no way last night’s results can be authentic.Just remember another door was already opened before idols was closed.Better and Greater things are coming your way ,God Bless

  30. southernnight  |   Posted on Mar 9th, 2007

We love you sundance. It is suppose to be a singing contest that can showcases they can do all types of music with their strong voice. Sundance did that with several different types of songs and did a great job (blues,70?s, oldies, and modern rock). I believe he could tackle any type of song. I did like his style. The other guy who stayed couldn?t sing himself out of a wet paper bag with that whispering stuff. Never under estimate the power of the pity vote for shadamar??

  31. J. Darvas  |   Posted on Mar 9th, 2007

Sundance, you were one of my favorites on the show. It is such a travesty that you got voted off that I just can’t stand the unfairness and ridiculousness of it. I am no longer watching the show. Hope you have a long and excellent singing career.

  32. Should have taken the advise and cut off the beard. My friends and I had a hard time getting past that. We knew you had the talent but your stage presence was lacking. You will make it in the business, no doubt about it but I do so wish you had made the top ten so you could have been in the tour..I’ll buy your first CD….keep on trucking..

  33. bonnie  |   Posted on Mar 11th, 2007

all i can say is that i am very disappionted in how the results came out and i know that he will be fine ond overcome this because i do believe he has the confidence to reach for his dreams and not look back at the show that is so corrupt its not worth even watching anymore so if your like me lets boycott american idol and get it off the air

After being an Idol freak since day one, I ‘m tired of this crap,
where someone like Sundance is voted off, while untalented people stay, I quite, I’m not watching it anymore, its run its coarse. Bring Sundance back, you did with Clay, come on, he’s a real talent.
