Pardon the NY-centric news for a second, guys; if you’ve never been on the Lower East Side, you (hopefully) know nothing of the cheeseball-attracting, blemish of a club called Libation. Its recent closing was enough to get blogs talking, giving hope for a new wave of the low key, beer-and-t-shirt friendly establishments from LES days of yore. Well you can forget your vintage tees, Pianos patrons. Page 6 reports:

We hear that Jay-Z – the head of Def Jam Records and co-owner of the Brooklyn-bound N.J. Nets, who already has a chain of 40/40 clubs – toured Libation on the Lower East Side with broker Steven Kamali to explore opening his own VIP club there.

Sorry indie rockers, VIP = not you. But who knows, maybe some Rocawear gear will help you through the door (hey, it’s good enough for Ryan Adams). Just watch out for that dog fur — we hear it itches.

first he ruins my neighborhood by building a damn stadium there, adding gridlock and therefore incessant car-honking for the indefinite future… only to segue into Nets fans taking over South Brooklyn. Now he needs to own a VIP club on the LES?!? not that the LES hasn’t already been heading in that direction anyway. last time i was out there, my friends and i ended up at a bar where people were bumping and grinding to all the hot 97 jams played by a dj that looked remarkably similar to the oh so annoying LA scenester of all scenester djs, Steve Aoki.

but seriously, isn’t there a better way he can flaunt all his money?

  2. ARGH! Stay out of my hood Jay-Z!

I for one am excited for Jay Z to open a club in the LES. Hopefully the presence of some black people in the area will scare away some of the silly little hipsters that have infested it in recent years. At least the hip hoppers have the common sense not to wear jeans so tight their balls end up in their stomachs.

  4. That’s cute. Still thinking that LES could de-lame itself by changing one bar. I’d given up hope a long time ago!

I heard when Jay-Z hangs with his girls, girls, girls, girls, in Korea, he eats dog.

are you then insinuating that black people are scary?

cause that’s kinda what it sounds like.

Bring it Jay-Z. I’d welcome you to the hood.

Native – there are still plenty of black people in the area; I’m one of them… and native to the neighborhood to boot. Rosie – some of those black people are indeed scary; I’m related to a few of them. ;-)

Aw, hell: old acid casualties are scarier than black people. I should know.
