Busy day in Camp Ferdinand. Last night in NYC (where he’s busy producing the new Cribs record), Alex launched Sound Bites, a collection of food journal entries he kept while on touring the world with Franz. And just this morning, he took to the band’s MySpace to premiere the new Franz tune “Hallem Foe, Dandelion Blow,” written for the Scottish film Hallem Foe. He writes:

Sexual tension, voyeurism, dark humour, Scotland and death are themes of the film – all of which seem good ingredients for a song by the Ferdinand. Nick and I read the script and went to screenings of early edits in the Glasgow Film Theatre which gave us the ideas for the melody and lyrics. Other Domino artists appear on the soundtrack including Psapp, Unpoc and Sons & Daughters.

Franz are reconvening in the UK to write songs for LP number three, for which Alex promised a “whole new sound.” Maybe the dreary “Hallem Foe” is a hint? Let’s hope not. Listen to it here. Do it now and win a cut-out Ferdinand.

  1. What the hell shit was that I just listened to? I mean it wasn’t bad but how the hell is that FF? It sounded like some weird Doors knock off or something like that. When did these guys get all mopey?

When did they get all mopey? Did you listen to the last album all the way through?

Wow. I’m gonna go and cut my wrists now.

It’s certaintly a change for the band, but it’s so different because it’s meant to be background music for a movie.

I like it. But that may be just because I’m 16 and wanna put it on a cd for this girl at school that I’m pursuing. Either way, I remain a loyal FF fan.

    It is important to note:
This is from the upcoming soundtrack that FF did for the film, Hallem Foe.

I read this book last year on a plane and thoroughly enjoyed it. The trailer is on youtube and it looks great. It stars Jamie Bell, who is really promising these days (chumbscrubber: crap; bell: good).

So just keep in mind this is film work. And read the book if you can find it. Funny/touching/blahblahblah…

I want more ‘arty’er alternitive stuff like from first album. This folky scotishy sounds ok but i prefer first album material.

I prefer their second album. Maybe it was not so popular in some places and with some kind people (teenegers or early twenties “hipsters” with short periods of attentions)but that it’s normal for every band so hyped like the ff were with their first album.

About the new song I think it’s great. It’s not a big surprise if you know some of their B side songs.
