From a press release for Chris Cornell’s new album (via Idolator):

Cornell is permanently departing super-group Audioslave stating, “Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors.

We know how much that upsets you. Conveniently for Zach de la Rocha, this means Audioslave could use a new lead singer and/or rapper for their appearance at Coachella under the moniker “Rage Against The Machine.” So, Chris: Soundgarden reunion. Please. Kim Thayil misses you.

But one last time, Audioslave in better days. Look how happy.

    i am shocked!
    can’t believe it.
they seemed to gel so well
making like an album a year

only good thing is that RATM might
be doin more reunion stuff now

good. they sounded stilted after one record.
im hopin’ for the soundgarden reunion too!

Thank god it’s finally over. Now Chris Cornell can move to Vegas and become the next Michael Bolton.

Watching Audioslave was painful, Cornell with his Gotti-boy hair and the Rage guys looking like a bored wedding band, it went on far too long anyway.

  4. Best. News. EVER.

Now Rage can come finish off the Bush administration and Soundgarden can go… whatever…

those other three guys must be really hard to work with…

  6. good. the 2nd album was so.. spotty, i couldn’t give LP3 a chance.

Anybody know what Kim Thayil has been doing all these years? I know he contributed to the last boris album. Anything else

  8. kevin  |   Posted on Feb 15th, 2007

apparently, the conflict came when cornell’s wish of making shitty music clashed with the band’s wish to make REALLY shitty music. they just couldn’t make it work.

    kevin gets a star!

These guys made great music. They’ll continue to do the same, without each other. Those who write differently are wrong.

  11. kevin nailed it.

but please, no soundgarden reunion! even after all these years, if i hear “black hole sun” one more time i’m going to lose it. it was overplayed enough to last into my childrens’ lifetime.

wonder if kim thayil’s been hanging out with the spoonman…

  12. Don’t be shocked, please for God’s Sake, did you hear their last record? If you heard, then realize the CRAP. Audioslave was a teribble band except
some of songs from first album such as “like a stone”… In my opinion this is good news for the musicians in this band. They were disaster together.

    Soundgarden update:

Chris Cornell: moderately grey, enjoying the AOR life, playing with some old dudes.
Matt Cameron: playing with these other old dudes who aren’t in Audioslave.
Kim Thayill: very grey. Still pretty badass.
Ben Shepherd: spending the last several months laying low and not arguing with people.

  14. Please, God, let Velvet Revolver be next.

    I couldn’t be happier.
When I first heard that Chris Cornell was getting together with the guys from Rage, I thought I’d love it, but I couldn’t have been more disappointed.

As soon as I heard that RATM were reuniting at Coachella, I knew there was definitely something fishy in the Audioslave camp…..I guess Tom, Brad and Tim just got sick of boring radio rock, and it seems that it was Chris’s direction, not theirs.

The only Soundgarden song that didn’t make me want to tear out my own ass was “Heretic”. Amember that’un, from the soundtrack to “Pump Up The Volume”?

‘Hypnotize’ and ‘Show Me How to Live’ are decent songs, but this project has run its course. I still love Cornell’s voice, but his songwriting has faltered. And that cover of ‘Billie Jean’? Awful. Please, no Soundgarden reunion, either. Matt Cameron is the perfect fit for the wrecking ball swing of Pearl Jam. Best. Band. Ever.

Y’all need to stop hatin’ on Soundgarden.

    I got a magic trick for y’all.

Put on Louder Than Love, turn it up to 11, and see your opinion change before your very eyes. Well, except for maybe the song “Full on Kevin’s Mom”, I can’t listen to that one any more.

No one will ever get me to remember the 90s fondly as far as music goes. It was a shit decade.

  20. hamerican  |   Posted on Feb 16th, 2007

Michael Mann is FREAKING OUT about this.

  21. lizardking76  |   Posted on Feb 23rd, 2007

All these douchebags crying for rage! Get off your ass and form your own revolution. Audioslave was a project and was never intended to last forever. Rage was a great band and definitely belong in a class of their own but to talk shit on soundgarden. Go listen to badmotorfinger or louder than love and you’ll hear one of the greatest rock bands ever. P.S. if you pull your heads out of your asses for a bit you’ll hear better. black hole sun was and is way overplayed and overrated.

I heard a rumor today about a RATM/Wu-Tang show?? There’s no way this can be true is it? I woke up and thought it was 1997 when I heard this.

I’ve been searching around for info on a Soundgarden reunion and haven’t found anything other than Chris talking some b.s. about Soundgarden was fine the way they left it..

To be honest, I was never granted the chance to see Soundgarden play and I would give anything to see them IF they choose to reunite, BUT after hearing Chris’ voice lately, I really just think he would butcher every last song. Poor guy, he goes sober and loses his greatest gift. At least I still have the records which will never change.

Also, quit harping on Black Hole Sun. It was a bad ass song and put them to the top.

I leave you with what I thought was Soundgarden’s final goodbye. Final track on Down on the Upside- Boot Camp.
    “There must be something else
    There must be something good
    Far away
…but I’ll be here for good”

  23. The Left-Wing needs a band that gets the kids critically thinking and pissed off going into the 2008 elections. Radio-friendly Audioslave could never accomplish that goal, but a reunited Rage Against the Machine can. I pray someday soon that will become a reality.

  24. I couldn’t believe the band broke up. I went to see them at the woodlands here in houston. They were really bad ass!! (I was in the pit) Since I really think Chris has alot of talent and a great voice, I think he’ll do good going solo. I have failth in him.
