TMZ has the scoop on Brit’s big day out:
TMZ has learned that while Britney Spears checked-in to rehab, she refused to stay and checked out — less than twenty-four hours later!As “EXTRA” first reported, the pop star entered a rehab facility two days ago. Now TMZ has learned that the center was located outside of the country, and she refused to stay.
TMZ is told that Britney checked in at the urging of friends and family, after being seen intoxicated in public places and was so “exhausted” on New Year’s Eve she collapsed.
Look what happens to her when we stop paying attention! She’s such a fucking wreck. Now, we’ve shown considerable restraint in posting shit like this. But if it was 2005, you know we’d post in a heartbeat. Do you guys like our shift towards keeping things pop tart free? Or would a little update from time to time on Brit and her ilk be appreciated? We would ask if you think she should reenter rehab, but it seems like everyone but her knows the answer to that.

Tart-free has been great for me. You do a great job finding stuff that I want to read that isn’t on most other big blogs. This story will be on lots of blogs… Gertie wearing a Peter,Bjorn & John shirt won’t. You’ve got a good eye for what we would be interested in. the gossip’s half the fun. what i don’t like are the new reoccuring features. ‘it’s okay to like..’ ‘mtv crap’ etc. the day job one is all right only because it’s been interesting, but i just prefer the spontaneous topical posts.

On the rehab stuff, I should have checked into rehab since I was like 13,
I’m not saying it’s cool or ok being drunk and doing some drugs, but she’s no Pete Doherty, so come on.

Half-ironic posts about Britney have been the heart and soul of Stereogum for years. Keep it under control, but don’t ditch Brit updates entirely. Especially not when she posts letters to her fans on her site.

Some Britney/et al posts now and again are fine. For the majority of us, myself included, it helps reinforce the whole “we’re better than you because we listen to indie rock” thing. But ya gotta make sure that it’s only a subset of what you’re doing. At the end of the day, we come here for the rawk. If we wanted gossip, we’d be at Perez Hilton or Pink.

i was looking forward to a post about anna nicole smith, too. and how you would somehow relate it to music.
