The new Kings Of Leon record is a really great listen, and three albums in, the band is mostly making the right moves. But the tight shots on Caleb’s penetratingly cheesy camera stares just ain’t one of ‘em. Don’t look too closely, it’s sorta disturbing, particularly coming from a band once branded “fashion rock.”

    “Im on Call”

am i on crack or is this made for greys anatomy ??

oh and thats some nice feathered hair

  5. who likes this shit  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

i fucking hate their music. this is awful. the singer reminds me of courtney love in the celebrity skin video… but with more plastic surgery.

  6. kylie  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

this video looks like it was made by a freshman film student at a community college. horrible.

  7. I actually like Kins Of Leon but this song is pretty horrible – and the video is even worse.

  8. Fredo  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

Yeah, I’m a Kings fan also. Great live shows, but I don’t get the whole styling thing. Maybe for their Japanese fans, or something. I liked the brothers scruffier; more farm boy. Songs not bad, but again to styled/produced.

Bring back the beards and the old sound.

  10. The Zimzi  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

He sorta looks like Jay from Jay and Silent Bob

  11. oh no what are they wearing

  12. He looks like that dude Bo Bice from American Idol.

  13. tony tiger  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

Like their music…not really this song…but the video is sooooo bad. The director should go back to making Crazytown videos. Close up of constipated singer singing is not cool. Beards are cool. Your music used to be cool. What a bad move this video is. Nice freakishly styled hair by one of them, too. This album has a weird Pearl Jam feel to it, too…like the first song’s horrible chorus.

  14. donna  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

i LOVED this song… until i saw this
    video. horrible.

  15. Fred  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

Yeah, I love this band too but I think it needs to fire its manager or something because someone is worrying about their image waaaaaaay too much.
This, that Rolling Stone fashion spread- it just doesn’t fit.
When you see them live, they just seem like regular dudes who rock.
The band and music aren’t polished- at least the first album wasn’t. So why pretend?
And yeah, I agree this song screams theme song to a TV show about doctors or firemen or something.
Go back to the whiskey and cigarettes shit guys!

  16. Remember 80′s hair bands? Remember those music videos? Well this video is kind of like that, except with “niftier” hair cuts and thrift store threads. I swear, all this video needs is some spandex, a stadium and/or arena setting, a leigon of adoring fans screaming til their lungs give out, a few bottles of aqua net, and Tawny Kitaen. Good song though. Nice and woozy.

  17. I saw these guys at a private show in Scottsdale last year, and as big a fan as I am of their music, their clothes were just embarrassing. No man should wear pants that tight. Or a jean jacket vest for that matter.

  18. Bangum' smurf  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

i loved the last kings of leon..

but obviously somebody told them to add a bit of

Nickleback american walmart vibe to the next album

    holy sell out.

  19. Doug  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

sooo disapointing. I really wanted to like it. Smooth FM Rock a la Third Eye, and all the rest of the bad comparisons made here.

  20. Stereogum, you got this one wrong. This band has done nothing but gotten worse since they came out. I saw them open for the Strokes a few years ago while they were on tour for their first album, still relatively unknown. Back then they sounded and looked like rock n roll music…having fun on stage, keeping it simple. Then I saw them at this years ACL…terrible, terrible performance. No one in the band moved the entire set. They looked like back up singers for a Paula Abdul video. Good call on all those early 90′s jokes, this definitely looks like a bad VH1 video…I kept waiting for Johnny Reznik. I like their early stuff…

  21. 2 much  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

    Bo Bice with down syndrome

  22. LOVE the Rzeznik reference. Please note the correct spelling of his name.

  23. ROXGOD  |   Posted on Mar 7th, 2007

I heard the new album, be prepared, it SUX!!

  24. matt  |   Posted on Mar 8th, 2007

the new album is pretty amazing, i think it’s really good, i don’t know if you got a bum copy, but i think it’s just kings growing and they want a hit single
do what you normally do, don’t watch mtv and shit like that, and let the band have the hit, the music world needs kings of leon more than we do, but still the song is a nice ditty, but there are other songs on the album that are better
i don’t think they’ll ever get nickleback or as terrible as people think, but if they get popular, which i don’t think they will, i think it’d be ok

  25. Whoever just said Seven Mary Three-esque, your a fucking idiot. Anyone who doesn’t like KOL because you don’t like the way they look is a fucking idiot. If you need to watch the video with your eyes close, this is a badass band on their 3rd album and on the rise, I don’t see any of you fucking idiots with 3 albums out.

    I”LL BEEE THERREEEEEEEEEEEEE

  26. JDUBS  |   Posted on Mar 8th, 2007

i’m a big kol fan. the song is nice, (black thumbnail is the best i’ve heard so far from the new album), but this video is pretty terrible. its just boring. remember the video they had where everyone is fighting? we need more of that.

  27. chloe  |   Posted on Mar 9th, 2007

omfg wot has happened 2 them?! r they tryin 2 b emo?! i hope not! bring bak the beards! WOOO!

  28. Harbinger  |   Posted on Mar 9th, 2007

I still haven’t made my mind up about this single/video. I guess I’m waiting for the album to come out before I make any judgments…. Or maybe I’m just fooling myself that they’ll make something anywhere near the quality of the first album.

  29. Conor Pierce  |   Posted on Mar 11th, 2007

    This song is class.

Kings of leon are the best band in the world!!!

Aha shake heartbreak one of the top ten albums of all time.

What does what u look like have on the music u play, Mick Jagger is one ugly motherf**ker but who cares, the stones have ridiculously good music. The Kings are up there with them.

  30. Narcdor  |   Posted on Mar 12th, 2007

Is it just me or does the fade of the big “to be there” reverb make anyone else want to cut off their ears? So unnatural…

  31. todd  |   Posted on Mar 12th, 2007

These guys are the real deal. It may be too far ahead for some but keep listening and you’ll get it, then you’ll realized your addicted. They are the best thing in Rock right now. Be prepared.

  32. @Narcdor:

No it’s not just you, I thought the same thing the very first time I heard the song. Maybe the work-experience kid at the studio got to play with ProTools on this one?

  33. Mike Pilkington  |   Posted on Apr 3rd, 2007

Absoloute genius has followed absoloute genious with these boys. There is and will be no other band like The Kings of Leon. The new album is fantastic and as soon as people stop jumping to conclusions and start listening they will be going to work/college/school with these songs in their heads like the last two albums.

Cant wait to see them live again.
