Yeah we just posted about Kelly! Indie snobs, feel free to scroll down. Dave Audé’s Night At The Roxbury treatment wasn’t a good look for “Never Again”; now Kelly’s choleric wailing is the show, her fuck-you lyrics riding a track clocking in a cut above standard radio-rock fare. No “Since You Been Gone,” obvs, but it’s a surefire smash. Listen at MySpace. Or just enjoy the view.

shutup you self righteous pricks….kelly rocks, you all know she’s got appeal not only in her looks but in the fact that she’s made some damn good pop songs

    Uh, oh. Someone’s channeling Alanis.

  6. Cool song, I like it. It seems like she took the song a couple of steps into a more ‘rock’ direction. But still remaining pop/rock. I think she’s one of the best vocalists around.

  7. For all the people touting Kelly’s ‘rock-cred’ status, that photograph shoots all of it down. For all the ‘I don’t give a damn about you’ attitude, her visual image is ‘Love me, take me, want me’ neediness.

Look, that’s how the Biz works. I understand that. Just don’t try to convince me the seriousness of the first doesn’t contradict the obviousness of the second.

    She’s right purty though, hyuck!

  8. I don’t think Kelly’s ever tried to get ‘rock-cred’ status. She’s just always been pretty honest about who she is, a pop singer, who has rock influences on her song. That’s pretty much the only reason I like her. Of course that’s just now. She’s also stated that she wants to make a country album, a soul album, a R&B album, a jazz album, ect. Eventually, I fully expect an album from every genre of music from her.

    1. “prickS”? there was only one comment prior to yours that was hating on kelly. so what the hell.

    2. does she actually write her songs? i don’t know… i’m really asking.

  10. Elise  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2007

^She does. This track is about David Hodges, her ex and former Evanessence frontman, who dumped her and got married immediately after.

  11. Ringo  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2007

She is doing some serious Pat Benatar channeling in that song.

  12. But let’s look at the record here – all her songs of recent note are about her living with / hating / getting over her latest man. “Behind These Hazel Eyes”, “Since You’ve Been Gone”, “Because Of You (I Am Afraid?)” and this one just re-enforce the kind of neediness found only in Mariah-strength doses.

Pop Music is all about girl meets boy – gets boy – loses boy, but her arsenal is threadbare, like the skirt she’s hiking in the recent photo. I’m not asking for massive amounts of growth from a pop star, but a teeny-bit would be nice. It would also help her career, I think.

I’m probably wrong on that point. So long as she regurgitates the same stream of used, abused, empowered and then used again, she’ll never need to be looked up to by young teens – she can only hope to be equals (and that’s actually kind of sad).

Amy Lee used to be a guy named David Hodges?

  16. Ah yes. Amy Lee and David Hodges – the dysfunctional duo. When Effervescence came out (plop plop fizz fizz), I complained they were outright stealing their male & female vocal styling from Lacuna Coil.

Since Lacuna Coil hadn’t really broken through from the underground, everyone asked me, “who the hell is Lacuna Coil?”

Then LC did break through during a notable Ozzfest season, and everyone started asking, “who are these Italians who dare steal from Estherbenson ?”

But all that is done now. Hodges is gone and Amy Lee’s sitting around waiting for sober dudes to call her.

    Ain’t life grand?

  17. heh. it’s a good song. better than i expected as a follow up from her. very excited to hear more. very shamed to admit it. :)

Haha Jimmy James, “isn’t it ironic?”

  19. jaird  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

Im pretty sure she doesnt write her own songs or maybe writes a few of the lyrics. One of her big songs (I think Since You Been Gone) was originally shopped to Avril Lavigne but she didn’t want it. So Kelly got the leftovers and it turned out to be a hit.

    Just for some clarification:

“Since U Been Gone” was written and produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Kelly told them to add more guitars. She didn’t write it but “obvs” identifies with it.

She wrote “Because of You” when she was 16. I thought it was pretty obvious that it was about her parents’ divorce and divorce in general. A lot of people seem to miss that when listening to the song but the video makes it quite clear.

“Where is Your Heart,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” and now “Never Again” all appear to be about David. “Never Again” was written a couple of years ago and they were reluctant to put it on the album for that reason but they like the song so they kept it. Growth yet to be determined. (Some info from the interview with Ryan Seacrest, available at kiisfm.com. Some info from the Vitamin Water behind the scenes interview, where she mentions “Jagged Little Pill,” by the way, as an album she connected with emotionally.)

And, no, Mike Watt is not playing on Never Again. He’s supposed to be on six tracks if I recall correctly.

There are, apparently, 27 tracks on the (double) album. Most of them written by Kelly.

  21. I personally think the arrangement is kind of lame. The constant arpeggio doesn’t support her strong voice. Then again, myspace bitrates suck.

  22. Kelly  |   Posted on Apr 18th, 2007

Thank you to Ling…you took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to straighten everyone out…but you did it for me. I don’t much care for the arrangement of “Never Again”…but the song’s not bad. I’ve heard several other songs on the new disc…and loved them all. Not sure why this is first single…but she likes to introduce with up tempo songs. Kudos to Kelly for hangin’ in there and fighting for her own style…and music. She loves to make music. She can only hope that people enjoy it as much as she does. I’d buy “row row row your boat” if she was singing it. Peace out….

  23. I love this song, I never liked rock style but with kelly and her mix in styles I have learned to love her music and I know that the rest of the world will love her new album, she is different from other singers and that is what her music is around the world.
what is important here is that she has thousands of fans around the world and her music is so good because she feels what she is singing.
just listen her lyrics and the bits of her melodies is really good
from Ecuador, southamerica, have a good time!!!
Kelly is the best, and for the reords, i know about her not beause of the show “American I dol” if not because her cd “breakaway” hits the radios. and then I watched the first season of Idols.

    see you soon

I love this song by Kelly Clarkson. It is so awesome. I do wish to hear more new songs from her and new music videos. Keep in touch.

  25. Someone way above me wrote that all of her songs recently have been about her hating men. This is true however, “Because of You” is about her parents’ divorce and the way her mother reacted to it. Kelly wrote the song when she was a teenager. And yes, she DOES write or co-write most of her songs.

I saw her in concert last summer. She IS pretty in person (and her voice is the real deal) so whether or not that’s “photoshopped”, I couldn’t care less.

Never again sucks — Just because she’s a good vocalist doesn’t mean she can write. This song makes it obvious that she should stick to what she’s good at … singing.

  29. KELLY ROCKS YOU DICKHEAD COCKS GO FUCKING SUCK YOURSELF!!! P.S. HER SONG NEVER AGAIN AND SOBER SOUNDS BETTER THE YOUR FUCKING SHITTY VOICES!!!!!!
