We were busy enjoying the vocal stylings of Paul Rudd fronting Of Montreal last night, but reader Nathan wrote us about this perfectly absurd OC-styled clip from Saturday Night Live, saying:

Nothing makes a death scene like Imogen Heap and slow motion.

Sorta like when Marissa offed Ryan’s brother, except funnier! Watch now before GE has it obliterated.

The original OC murder scene after the jump. Guarantee you’ll laugh.

Screw the first person to say, “Well, it’s no ‘Lazy Sunday.’”

  2. TheHumanComa  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

Is your name really Michael Scott?

I liked it if only for the fact that I stopped watching The OC at that exact episode. Not a big fan of Shia TheBeef though and none of the other clips from last night’s show over at the SNL site are as close to funny as this.

  3. Sophia  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

    hahaha… good stuff.

  4. liam  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

that was pretty funny, but still not as good as the board room meeting short with dwight from the office and the arcade fire. was the girl in the thing chan marshall? it looked a hell of a lot like her.

  5. Finchmeister  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

That’s the only time I’ve enjoyed that Imogen Heap song.

Best part is the inadvertent humor from Shia LeBeouf getting shot. I’d put money down that he wasn’t in on that joke.

And Paul Rudd fronted Of Montreal? That’s amazing.

  6. Needed a LOT more blood.

  7. hahahahahahahaha
they killed the joke…. but it was very funny.

I started to love Imogen Heap thanks to that episode of The OC…

  8. Becky  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

Insanely funny. Best one in a long time.

  9. paper  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

yea seriously I don’t watch snl much so I’m not sure but was that chan marshall?

  10. krys  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

no, it was (cast member) kristen wiig in a brown wig. I don’t see the chan marshall resemblance.

  11. That song has been sitting unlistened to on my mp3 player for god knows how long. Guess I need to listen to more Imogen Heap.

  12. howard  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

Imogen Heap makes me writhe in pain, but this video wasn’t too bad. the guys could have better expressions but the best part was the cops.

  13. Tyler  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

totally silly and funny. good video.

and the lack of blood was part of what was so funny! I laughed the hardest probably at the shot of Kristen Wiig lying on the floor, no blood.

  14. Brad  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

Man, I totally thought that was Chan Marshall too…

  15. smashing  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

    I’m sorry I don’t watch the OC….so this wasn’t funny…at all.

  16. dehfne  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

what makes this even funnier is that the oc reused that song when marissa died and ryan carried her lifeless body away from the car wreck. it was awesomely lame.

  17. annie onymous  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

having never watched 5 seconds of the OC i wondered what the hell was so funny about that…

  18. anon  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

actually, dehfne, I think they used Imogen’s cover of L.C.’s Hallelujah in the marissa death scene.

  19. Steve1  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

I’ve actually never watched the OC. Didn’t quite “get” the gag at the outset, but the overwrought drama of it all (along with the song restarting EVERY time the camera switched views) won me over in the end. Funny on two levels (at least, apparently).

  20. Greg  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

never watched an episode of the OC in my life and still laughed my ass off at this last night and again today

  21. Tyler  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

yeah, I’m with greg. my mind didn’t immediately go to The O.C. when I saw this. it’s more general than specific.

  22. todd  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

really? it isn’t Chan Marshall? remember that Pitchfork interview where she said she was going to try out for SNL? i could’ve sworn that was her too.

  23. It looks in no way, shape, or form like Chan Marshall. Chan is good looking.

  24. doggie  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

i always smile at the person who shoots me. it’s just the nice thing to do.

  25. doggie  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

definitely not chan marshall. she just happens has bangs that are similar.

  26. doggie  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

happens to have* … i am sped sometimes.

  27. marissa cooper  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

tyler and greg, the video where i get shot to the exact same song (and with the same slow motion hilarity) is the second youtube on this post (scroll up and watch it). it is funny on two levels, but it’s definitely spoofing my death.

also, that is not at all chan marshall, although kristin wiig is nearly as awesome.

  28. TheHumanComa  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2007

It works better with the two vids side by each.

  29. so what you’re saying is…it’s The Departed meets The OC.

    I’ll buy it.

    Departed County?

    okay that was just silly.

  30. Tage  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

What is the name of the song from the SNL short? is it by Imogen Heap? it as great.

  31. I never watch the OC, and when I saw this clip I had know idea there was even any reference to it. Nonetheless, I laughed harder than I have in ages, as did my OC-less friends (and, apparently), my father. So don’t tell me you needed to get the “OC joke” to find this funny…

  32. pippa  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

I agree 100% with OC?. I (like so many other stereogum readers apparently) have never watched a full episode of The OC, and I don’t plan too. I didn’t get the reference to the show in the Digital Short but I thought it was pretty funny anyway. Not hilarious, but still laughable.

And I can guess what a few comments are going to be. “I bet all of you claiming to not watch the OC love the show” etc. etc. But it’s true, not everyone loves crap dramas about rich teenagers.

  33. smashing  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

No, after watching both clips I didn’t think it was that funny so I assumed everyone gushing over it were OC fans. I completely get what they are going for. Which, I could understand how if you watched the OC you might find funny. But you laughed harder than you had in ages at that? Wow. It’s really not that clever(a quality of SNL).

  34. I think what makes this so funny is the over-acting done by all the actors. Also, I think this made me laugh so hard because it makes fun of every death scene you have ever scene in the movies.

The slow head turns to look at the camera.
The victim looking down at their bloody hands.
The camera switching back to the shooter and them looking directly at the camera with the gun still pointing at the victim.
The head’s bouncing off the floor.
The victim’s revenge by coming back to life for one last shot.
Andy’s facial expressions after making the first shot like “It’s what had to be done”.

I know some people are going to say that all sounds really sick/twisted but honestly, I think they wound up EVERY death scene I have ever seen, put it to a sad song, and totally made fun of it.

I watched this with my fiance and I was rolling on the floor laughing while she stood silent. So I guess it really depends on the person.

  35. onemoretime  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

LOL Did anyone else notice Shia LeBeouf changed positions on the floor after every time he shot the gun. He shoots from his belly, his side, his back. That just makes me laugh harder now.

  36. the mercy fox  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

    ryan’s brother didn’t croak.

  37. Webbie  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

    Well it’s no… L *BLAM*

  38. m.a.  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

i wanted it to have been chan marshall instead of kristen, but….
what is the name of that goofy imogen heap song>? and what does this all have to do with the o.c.????

  39. m.a.  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

ok, i see now. the o.c. link wasnt there at first. wow, that is some classic digital short. i always love them things….

    things….

  40. I thought it was hilarious but I hadnt’ seen that OC so I didn’t know why. Thanks stereogum!

  41. Sophia  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

m.a., it’s “Hide and Seek”. The part they used is at the climax of the song – most appropriate for shooting scenes. haha.

  42. sunnydlita  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

I also didn’t know it was an O.C. reference, but found it absurd and funny nonetheless. Thanks, SG, for linking to the source clip.

And onemoretime: YES – in addition to Fred Armisen’s I’m-about-to-cry facial expressions, which always crack me up (which made him perfect for that Sanjaya parody a few weeks ago), I thought Shia LeBoeuf shooting Kristen Wiig lots of times in lots of different ways (especially the one where he has one hand steadying the other like in a John Woo movie) put it awesomely over the top.

  43. jed2  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

That was funny. Last week’s board room bit was hilarious as well. SNL should should just go ahead and take the “L” part out and just do digital shorts. They seem to be good at that.

  44. trey atwood  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

marissa cooper, you must not have watched that video yourself, because it is I, Ryan’s older and sexier brother, that got shot to that song in slow-motion. in fact, it was you who shot me so I’d think you’d remember.

i didn’t die though, so no biggie.

  45. marissa cooper  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

trey! first of all, yeah, it’s a pronoun thing. despite what they showed on that show, i really aren’t that smart (see?), so i meant to say “he” when i said “i.” obviously i was the one shooting the gun (which was so much fun, btw). totally.

anyway, sorry for trying to kill you. but look, we inspired a funny digital short. hope you can forgive me, you sexy beast.

  46. Matt  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

This is even more funny seeing as Andy Samberg bascically got onto SNL when he was with the Lonely Island doing a 5 minutes show that was a parody of The OC called The ‘Bu (for Malibu).

    http://www.channel101.com/shows/show.php?show_id=10

Imogen Heap could of sung every song for just about every moment on The OC.

  47. Jake  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

So, I bet what happened is that some SNL writer head there was this new show the kids were watching like 90210, but in a different zip code and without Tori Spelling. Then, it took a couple of months to get to the top of his Netflix que and then a few more months to see the last episode of season two. Then, this joke was born: after the show’s episode had air almost two years ago and the show itself has been canceled for two months. No wonder the SNL viewer ship is in the toilet.

  48. Isabella  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2007

I Know When I was Watching This I Notice The O.C. And I Was Craking Up and i dont think people who never saw the o.c will really get it like we do it was so funny

  49. Guns: $700.00.
    Ammunition: $100.00.
    Wardrobe: $400.00.
Expression on Shia LaBoeuf’s face when he gets shot in the stomach: Priceless.

Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself.

  50. who sings this song? I like it.

  51. Imogen Heap sings it; it’s called “Hide and Seek”

  52. Joanne  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2007

I thought this was hilarious when I first saw it (I hate the OC)… but has anyone’s opinion of this changed in light of what happened at Virginia Tech?

  53. liam r  |   Posted on Apr 18th, 2007

ya definately kind of a buzz kill… i thought it was the funniest thing i’ve seen on SNL in a while. I’ll never be able to watch another teenage drama like the o.c. or one tree hill again. but after the incident at VT, its really not funny.

  54. plz can anyone post a downloadable link for this snl digital short dear sister so i can save it to my computer/itunes

  55. Doug  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2007

“Best part is the inadvertent humor from Shia LeBeouf getting shot. I’d put money down that he wasn’t in on that joke.”

Um…he was the host and in the short. I’m PRETTY sure he’s in on it. ;)

who wrote that song does anybody know??? This skit is by far my Favorite, and it gets funnier the more ya watch it. I want it for my “myspace” if anybody can help w/ the name of the song that would make my day. Thanx

  65. Elros  |   Posted on Oct 22nd, 2007

I don’t see knowledge of the OC being requisite here. I just thought it was poking fun of the film cliché where the dead guy comes back to life and shoots somebody…it’s in countless movies

  66. fill  |   Posted on Nov 16th, 2007

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE ASKING FOR THE NAME OF THE SONG
I NOTICED THAT NO ONE WAS ANSEWERING THEMSO HERE IT IS
Imogen Heap – HIDE AND SEEK
HOPE I SAVED SOMEONE SOME TIME
AND JUST FOR THE RECORD THE FIRST 3/4 OF THE SONG SUCKS
IT ONLY GOOD WHEN IT GETS TO THE “WHAT YOU SAY” PART WHICH IS ONLY ONCE
