Look, if even Björk is doing it, who are we to resist? So when Modest Mouse approached us about doing a fan-made video contest for the We Were Dead… cut “Fire It Up,” we just couldn’t say no. (There’s no denying Johnny Marr.) And we know Modest Mouse is doing another such contest with MTV, but … not this song. Our song’s better! And so is our prize: Stereogum readers will vote on all the submissions, and if they choose yours, you and a friend will fly round-trip (with hotel) to a gig of your choosing on MM’s next US tour. Winner also receives an autographed CD, a special-edition CD, and a vinyl copy of the #1 Billboard smash album (still crazy, after all these weeks).
Find the downloadable green screen assets (multiple angles!), instructions, rules, regulations, trials and tribulations here. But make sure you mash up the green screen footage only with original and/or public domain footage; no copyrighted material, ’cause the winning vid could end up on a Modest Mouse DVD one day (for reals).
Submissions must be in by Tuesday, May 22nd at 12PM EST. Go get your Gondry on.

I am going to enter this competition. I hope it’s okay to be a member of that youtube group without submitting a video yet.
elton, we’re going to sic viacom on you if you don’t submit a video withing 30 seconds of joining.
seriously, though, you can even join and not submit a video.
Awesome contest, but I can’t help thinking that any other song on the album would have been better. I am finding it hard to get, well, fired up about it.
link isnt working.
should be okay now, annie.
“but I can’t help thinking that any other song on the album would have been better.”
What is stopping you? looks like they are spreading their whole album over the internet as a greenscreen contest.
And with all the video creators waiving all the rights to their own made videos, sony (BMG) must be creating the cheapest in production costs dvd ever.
I Think Any Song Would Be Great.
I really want to go as my best buddy Jake is still bereft over his hero Mitch Hedbergs passing on 31 March two years ago. We really need all your help to lift him out of his horrible funk. Mitch still rules for those of us who are comedy fans….Hearing Modest Mouse in concert would really help this young man out. Please……
give me prizes!!!!!!!!!!!

I NEED A WIN BAAD!
This is one of my favorite tracks on your CD. I would reenact your words in this song. I can picture a beach, with great big waves. I would really play this up. I also see a beautiful sunset more of an abstract type of world with lots of colors. In the sunset I would use purple and orange shades in the sunset. In the waves I would uses all different types of blues. I am really picturing waves?and a great big sunset ?I would keep it very simple?..??I love this song and the words and the melody makes it?I would not take a way from the song. ?Over all theme would be abstract beautiful beach scenery. Like in the movie ?What Dreams May Come? with Robin Williams?the paints and how he was able to interact in the paintings?. I picture the color use like this? I cannot wait to see your video?keep doing the good work guys?oooh?yeah please come to Albany so I can see you guys in concert?.

This is the third music video challenge off of the new album. I’m seriously thinking that Modest Mouse just doesn’t want to make another video.
I’m seriously annoyed that as a member of the UK I’m banned from entering any of the contests, because they’re available only to people in the US. What the heck! I buy the records too! I saw them on tour here! I just don’t understand it, it seems kind of unfair, since I really want to take part in this. Woe is me!!!
I agree with Hannah, I live in Australia and I wanted to take part in it to!
And what about Italy?
We are allways out of these competitions.
i think i would rather get stoned in idaho than listen to green day. oh. never mind, this is modest mouse, i like modest mouse and i am a fucking awesome stoner who gets high on dentist gas in the fucking mall. and some times i can get high on helium (its so fucking fun cause your voice goes all high and so does your fucking status). in the name of jesus christ AMEN
