Thanks to Roman for taking time out of his weekend festivities to drop a line about a new Lupe track “sampling” Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” (really, it’s the track mostly unmodified with Fiasco, Kanye, and Pharrell taking turns with their verses). The off-time keyboard chords are well suited to the trio’s syncopated lyrical drills, and Thom’s moaning on the hook is always a good look. Have a listen at Spine Magazine.

Pharrell’s verse puts Lupe and Kanye to shame, but it’s unfortunate that he couldn’t make those skills translate into a great solo effort.
As for the Thom Yorke sample – when I bought the Eraser, I predicted that hip hop would steal half of the songs for source material in an industry where creativity seems to be at an all time low.
i will go on record as not liking anyone involved in this track (thom solo too…i like radiohead tho) and i think it came out very well.
rap doesn’t belong on such a gentle, fragile piano track as thom comes up with. they didn’t even bother to add trunk-thumpin’ bass or possibly some trill-ass highhat for the biatches to twerk it to. oh, how i hate kanye west.
the quality sucks on the mp3, too. not that it matters, i won’t be sharing this with anyone.
Radiohead is my all time favorite, as well and Kanye. I LOVE this.
This is a great track. Kanye, Lupe, and Pharrell all drop strong flows over a great Thom Yorke sample. No need for thumping bass here, it would just distract from the subtle sweetness of this well written and well produced track.

This is a great example of how meshing genres should be. I think sampling in this manner will open a lot of closed minds to the possibilities of the diffrent music available. Who cares if it doesn’t sound like everything else out ther? Isn’t that the point?

This is what music is all about,Collaboration, getting people together to listen to the words of one to express to the masses! To the closeminded, well exactly, “closeminded”. Lamens follow and say things like “rap doens’t belong with rock” and other uneducated crap like that, that makes you “LAME”. There is no such thing as im a “rapper” and I am a “rocker. It’s for the love of the music and the freedom that we have to listen and enjoy different “genre’s” of music, just like the artist’s freedom to add great music to a project that get’s helluv props. I grew up on rap, with the sounds of Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Digital Underground, D.O.C, Run DMC, Dougie Fresh, Slick Rick, and fell in love with rock in the 90′s, with such artist’s as Radiohead, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, Filter, Kid Rock, Stain,Depeche Mode, The Cure just to name a few. I love all genre’s though. So to all the closeminded, open up a little, quit getting sold with all the media outlets controlling what you like and dislike, because behind close doors your curiosity will afloat and I know you will be boppin your head to the genuine sound of Us Placers!!!! I give this joint mad props on a sound that is the building blocks to the next generation of “MUSIC”. Man I cant get enough of that sound:)
