The Instant Karma: Save Darfur comp’s first single comes from Green Day who, after reminding the Idol-worshipping crowd about how they’re doped with religion and sex and TV, set their cover of Lennon’s anti-anthem to testimonials from people touched by the Sudanese atrocities. 90% of the proceeds from the single’s sale go directly to the Save Darfur-Amnesty International program, so buy, then delete. Everybody wins.

marilyn manson covered that about 4 years ago and I would say did a hell of alot better job.

  3. Couldn’t I just donate 20 bucks to the program, and not have to hear the bad music?

There was a Lennon cover album a few years ago that had a Screaming Trees cover of this song, way better version imo.

Be grateful that there are rock bands like green bay who still cares about changing the world. Great cover. Green Day rocks!!!

Why was this item tagged with ‘The Beatles’ as well as ‘John Lennon’? This song has nothing to do with The Beatles outside of Lennon’s status as an ex-Beatle.

  8. Great Cover, Good Job Greenday!

Sorry that so many people don’t seem to like the cover….I’m surprised, actually. I don’t know, I think it was the fact that Billie Joe put so much of his emotions for the cause into his voice. The video was powerful, and I can only hope that even those who hated the cover will appreciate the cause.

I’m glad that even if you wanna criticize the song itself, no one has chosen to shit on the cause. I think Billy Joe’s voice has improved exponentially over the years.
