You probably already know that nobody bows a saw quite like the lovely Icelandic ladies of amiina. The Reykjavik quartet have a special place in our hearts, ’cause the last three times we’ve seen ‘em, Sigur Rós took the stage immediately thereafter (that’s called positive association). The connections with the Victory Rose run deep: amiina are the string section on the band’s last two records, they are Jonsi et al’s opening act of choice, and now they have their very own LP Kurr, which features the following instruments (a liste we’ve decided to reprint for obvious reasons): “Alongside more traditional instrument like guitars, keyboards and mandolins Kurr features a saw, Celtic harps, metalophones, singing wine glasses, xylophones, glockenspiels, harmoniums, bells, table harps, kalimbas, cuadros, celests, harpsichords, Rhodes pianos, synthesisers, trumpets, trombones, tubas, clarinets, drums, cellos, violas and violins.” Also, a computer.

Sólrún, María, Edda, and Hildur’s track “Lóri” features at least six of those instruments in a baroque-tinged harpsichord/piano/accordion weeper, the sort of fare Tim Burton or a po-mo ballet would die for.

For some of that vaunted saw-wielding, you have got to check out the Rós-colored “Rugla,” streaming at their MySpace page. Kurr is out via Ever.
