Say what you will about his music, but the man is packing some serious neo-soul.

He’s been doing this sort of thing a lot lately… probably to prove he’s not gay!

  2. Get Lifted and Once Again are both modern soul masterpieces. That’s what I’ll say about his music.

its ironic to see all these homophobic/racist posts when all you out there in cyberland probably can’t even say, “hello”, to a pretty woman.

Am I crazy? It actually looked like he had kind of a small boner- that part at the end was just a fold in his pants, curb your enthusiasm style.

He’s no Cheney, that’s for sure:

  12. By far one of the best soul singers around right now. And how can you think that man is gay? Even if he were, it wouldn’t change the fact that he makes some sexy music.

    Isaac,

I never said he was gay, nor do I think he is. I’m just pointing out that when male celebrities are inundated by rumors about their sexual orientation, they tend to do stupid shit like this to prove otherwise. From my personal perspective, there seems to be a huge stigma behind being perceived as gay in the black community, as opposed to someone like Justin Timberlake who thrives on riding that line.

And I think that as far as the male soul genre goes, his music is better than all of his contemporaries.

I think we’re all just ordinary people.

  15. There I was thinking this was a family site. Shame on you Stereogum, shame on you.
