They’re all grows up! We’re just getting over having seen the National on MTV with Aziz, Rob, and, Paul (and Ashlee Simpson looming over Matt’s shoulder, no less), but seeing ‘em with Dave Tuesday night? With Doveman? Sorry, we’re a little verklempt. They even brought the horns. Matt’s as tall as Dave! Letterman loved it (well of course he did). Tops of ’07? It’s up there. Boxer, Hissing Fauna, Person Pitch … these are a few of our favorite things. Hey Doveman fans … new stuff’s on the way. It’s a good year.

Geez! They’re so nervous in this performance unlike Human Giant.

  2. Hissing Fauna?…

    Reeeallly????

    …..really???

we were dead…? sky blue sky? ga(x5)? armchair apocrypha? 23?

Meh. Hissing Fauna is leagues better than the Boxer.

nervous? i don’t see it. that was fantastic.

  5. Hissing Fauna and Boxer are both definitely way up there for me. Person Pitch is the questionable one in that list.

I’m at work watching that performance for the second time, and I’m truly choked up. I love that song so much.

  7. Dear The National,

Cheer up dudes, you’re doing well!

I love this tune but a little stage presence would go a long way here. The drummer looks like someone just poisoned his cat.

The new Okkervil and Iron&Wine albums are also both fantastic.

Looking back, this was a fantastic year for music.

However, I think that Boxer is still at the top of my list for this past year.

That said, their song ‘You’ve Done It Again Virginia’ absolutely should have made it onto the album.

Boxer is by far my pick for album of the year. There have been a lot of big releases from very strong artists (Andrew Bird, Modest Mouse, Spoon), but none of them has advanced the group’s sound and style the same way Boxer has for The National. I still have high hopes for the albums still coming. Okkervil River, Iron & Wine, Josh Ritter, Wolf Parade (and Sunset Rubdown) … The Wrens maybe? All bands at the top of their game.

  10. Nice shuffle.
