As you surely remember, due to some Police activity, Lollapalooza and the US Virgin Fest are on the same weekend this year. Alas we had to choose but one, and we’re Lolla bound as we type. Both events included plenty of intrigue … and more than we can physically see. We have questions. For one, will that smashed Smashing Pumpkins guitar still be on sale in Baltimore? At Lolla, LCD Soundsystem plays on a separate stage immediately before Daft Punk which sets our minds reeling…

Anyway, who do you suggest we see while in Chi town? Or plan to see yourselves while getting festive this weekend? Here are the schedules for one, and the other. And while we’re asking questions: We know there are parties out there — who’s got deets? RSVP info would be nice, but we ain’t too proud to crash.

I think the only parties that would want to have the Stereogummers are those thrown by labels who want their artists to get coverage. No one else can stand you fuckers.

Yeah WXRT will be able to hook you guys up with all the post shows that are happening since you have to win tickets to the bigger ones.

Well go see the Art Institute if you guys are into that sort of thing, Millennium Park is pretty cool…for like 5 minutes but still nice to see.

You guys should check out the Time Out Chicago tent. (I’ll actually be working there…) anyway, also check out the website (timeoutchicago.com). There’s a big section about where all the afterparties are, including one being thrown by Ed Banger and Throne of Blood (the Rapture’s dj label, methinks). Should be pretty insane. But yeah, check it out. If not, I’ll most likely be giving away issues of the magazine to anyone I see.

Have a good time. Daft Punk is worth the ticket price alone. (and for the sake of more parentheses: I passed by grant park today–where its at– and saw the huge pyramid set up. It was…beautiful.)

I’ve noticed a lot of hating on Stereogum lately. The gentleman a few above claims “No one else can stand you fuckers.” What I don’t understand is, if you or you or you or you despise Sterogum so much, then why visit the site? It’s a free country (well, internet at least) and we can post what we want, and at the same time, avoid what we want. Get a fucking life haters, or enjoy the information and opinion shared.

The Throne of Blood crew are holding it down Friday night at Green Dolphin. Spoon are also DJ’ing at the Hideout Friday. CSS will be manning the decks at Debonair Social Club Saturday night. You guys know about all this already though, right?

I was wondering if they’d colaberate on “Daft Punk is Playing at My House”, too!

be ready for a Kanye cameo tonight…

  10. agreed, daft punk is worth the price alone…be ready to be amazed!

  11. Ted Leo, Ponys, and Chin Up Chin Up post party at Double Door Saturday night. Let me know if you want to be on the list.

  12. I’ll be holding it down in Baltimore with some backstage access at Virgin Fest, so stay tuned to Any Given Tuesday for that scoop.

And thanks for actually calling Virgin Fest a Baltimore show . . . too many in the press are calling it DC, and that’s wrong!

I don’t have any place to recommend. I just wanted to state how much I really, really, really, really wish I could be there to see Daft Punk.

On another note, I just found out today that all artists playing Lolla have to sign a contract preventing them from playing anywhere in Chicago for 60 days before and 30 days after Lolla, unless it is first approved by the promoters. Is it just me, or does that seem pretty fucked up?

Oh, and damn you Stereogum for getting that damn Huey Lewis & The News song stuck in my head. *shaking fist*

Hey Faz, I’m interested in going! I don’t have a music blog or anything, but I’ll be in Chicago from NY for the day and night, unfortunately not for Lolla.

Hey, a girl can try right?

I will be at vfest. I’m a little annoyed that the police and modest mouse are playing at the same time.
