Been none too shy about our love for Aussie/Kiwi literate pop-noir rockers Augie March (and their stellar sophomore release Moo, You Bloody Choir) around here, and last week the band got to flex its Saul Bellows-indebted dynamics for a national audience on Craig Ferguson’s show (a questionably sized national audience as it was, after all, Craig Ferguson … but still). Glenn’s Grant-Lee tenor is, as always, Augie’s anchor, but “One Crowded Hour” kills on multiple levels. Sadly missing the gospel choir background vocals, but Ferguson’s “moo” trigger (what?) is punctuation enough.

i was wondering who that was when I passed by this horrible excuse for a talk show. it’s the only time i can recount that i’ve liked watching the craig ferguson show. (if only for a minute or two)
Someone needs to grab sufjan stevens, beirut, fiest, andrew bird, and a bunch of other artists and slap them a few times and tell them that there is MORE to the southwest than California, Texas, Orgeon and colorado. How about Phoenix? Vegas? Get with it!

Moo is the band’s full-length release.
I think solomon was trying to say that ‘Moo’ is their third full-length.
Personally I think ‘Moo’ and ‘Sunset Studies’ are much better than ‘Strange Bird.’ I know it’s 70 minutes long, but find Sunset Studies and fall in love! Now!
If you can make it to one of their shows then i would recommend it. I have seen them twice in Australia and loved each moment.
The title of the album (which is their third in Australia) relates to its recording. They worked in a studio somewhere out in the country and at various points in the album you can apparently hear cows. I’ve got the album – but I still haven’t heard the cows yet.
They’re all Aussie and no Kiwi, Stereogum geniuses.
Oh and Strange Bird is their best release. Followed by Sunset Studies. MYBC isn’t bad, but nowhere near the caliber of the first two LPs! My 2c.
