Broken Social Scenester Jason Collett’s third album Here’s To being Here comes out in February. The Torontonian’s referred to the collection as his “guitar record,” due in part to the larger sound achieved by recording it with touring band Paso Mino as well as getting palette-broadening appearances by BSS/Apostle of Hustle(r) Andrew Whiteman, Liam O’Neil of the Stills and Tony Scherr (Norah Jones, John Scofield). Judging from the first two tracks we’ve heard, dude’s not bluffing.

Countrified. Great how “Charlyn, Angel Of Kensington” claps and struts down the block in the most unhurried way, adding bits to the story before it closes. “Out Of Time” definitely has some Time Out Of Mind intonations. That very satisfying Spoon-y falsetto hook? We can’t stop singing it, and we love that he’s caught a rock bug — if you remember, even that Stars remix he did a ways back was beefed-up with some six string.
Here’s To Being Here is out 2/5 on Arts & Crafts. Collett’s currently on tour with Feist.

He isn’t signed to Broken Social Scene’s Arts & Crafts label ... He’s toured with rockers Zeus and singer-songwriter Jason Collett, and he recorded both his albums (at his then-girlfriend’s house north of Toronto) with the help of Robbie Lackritz ...

First Sufjan, now this track. Seems like Kensington is the talk of the town today. Except for that boring K-town blog.

a friend of mine interns are arts and crafts and was given the unholy task of listening to the record a few weeks ago and transcribing the lyrics.
the reason, you might ask?
mr. j collett couldnt remember them. they weren’t written down. somehow, it was all just off the cuff in the recording process. interesting?
Howie Beck, an amazing Toronto singer-songwriter/multi instrumentalist/producer – produced both this and the collett debut. he’s the tits. Needs some gum love…

awesome – thanks for posting that 3 times.
Four, actually. And JC’s got three albums out, not two. Counting’s not your thing, eh?
yeah, counting, posting, i suck today. Howie Beck is great though. Don’t let my (or stereogum’s) jenkyness detract from my original point.
