Jesse Sykes had her triple L this year — Like, Love, Lust — but the Raveonettes aren’t bothering with the mushy stuff. It’s all about Lust Lust Lust for them, and for us: cue up the dusky girl group melodies, the Jesus, the Mary, and spin it heavily, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have put together a great one. The excellent “Dead Sound” gets a majestic, cinematic makeover here, a Ronnie specter dancing amidst a troupe of youths coming to grips with the loss of a friend gone too far, too deep, and too soon.

To go:

Have a listen of “Aly, Walk With Me” here. Lust Lust Lust is out early ’08 on Vice. And if all that’s not enough, take the jump for “Dead Sound” in the back of a London black cab. No distortion, no reverb, still lovely.

I love the song, but “Dead Sound” doesn’t seem like an appropriate title. How about “Borrowed Sound”?

    - That high pitched organ sounds exactly like Suicide’s “Cheree”. I prefer the original.

  3. Lust, Lust Lust is already one of my favorite albums of ’08. F – - -, the times they are a-changing. Anyway.
The acoustic version of “Dead Sound” is pretty sweet but I dig the reverb and noise of the studio album.

^ You ain’t lying, Christopher. I just got my hands on Lust Lust Lust and there isn’t one bad song on there. So good.

Lust, Lust, Lust has been in constant rotation since it leaked. The Raveonettes can, almost, do no wrong.
