The power of Richard Hawley’s rich and sonorous baritone is such that a white-picket-fenced nursing-home performance can inspire a nostalgic senior to go “back in time” to revisit his valentine. That our motorcycling hero has a thing for Elvis is just another dash of quirk to the odd but vaguely sentimental video conceit for this throwback croon-pop track.

Hawley recently hit Other Music for a cozy instore on a chilly night — head here for pics and vid. And for our ever-expanding 2007 holiday mixtape, Richard contributes his mellifluous take on a egg nog slurping classic…

Lady’s Bridge is out via Mute.

Nope. All of his songs have that vintage feel. This is just one of the ace tracks on his criminally under-rated “Ladys Bridge.”
