Bryan Scary’s debut LP The Shredding Tears crossed our collective desk at some point last year to some intraoffice fanfare, tickling the XTC and Fiery Furnaces and Squeeze fans in particular (“I’ve been waiting so long to have an indie rock band like Squeeze!” went one in-house email.) And then … we never got around to blogging about it! It happens. There shall be no such mistakes with their follow-up Flight Of The Knife, though, which Bryan Scary and his Shredding Tears introduce by way of lead single “Imitation Of The Sky.” No mussels being pulled from shells, here; instead, “Imitation” comes in a more-diabolical shade of Queen.

Flight Of The Knife is out 4/1 on Black and Greene. Preorder here. Or continue to check in at flightoftheknife.com, where they’re giving the album away track at a time, week at a time, up until street date. Each track’s only a download the week it premieres, though; after that it’s a stream and you’ll be forced to spend money like a chump. The first week is “Imitation Of The Sky,” which you just heard and we like … but we have no idea of what it’s about. Bryan and the Tears explain:
This is the mourning of Susie High. One-time champion of our hearts, she could have had the world. The fastest, youngest, and most daring pilot in all the land, she shot to fame immediately after shooting into the sky. But ambition’s a bastard, and she went to bed with him. Yes, it’s hard to comprehend how one horrifying miscalculation could send her crashing into the Rhine and out of our lives forever. Was it sabotage? Was it sacrifice? Or was she merely human after all?
Hope that clears things up.

Bryan Scary is the real deal. The Shredding Tears was probably the best album of the decade that went almost completely ignored by the public.
Great band. It was interesting how little coverage The Shredding Tears got last year. Hopefully Flight Of The Knife tops it, and the band gets some much-deserved exposure.
i love this band. ESPECIALLY live. seriously, if they play within a 3 state radius of you, do yourself a favor and go see them. thank me later.
i saw them play! you’re right! so awesome! i can’t wait to see them again. this is by far the best band i’ve seen live in many years. i couldn’t believe it. totally do yourself a favor and see them play. hopefully they’ll be at sxsw – i’m going to that HAHA be jealous!
