The woman of unparalleled beats and matchless garbage bag choreography got really quiet after 2005′s Cook Book, aside from a greatest hits album the next year and some remix bits for Pretty Ricky and old bud Timbaland. “Ching-A-Ling,” the first new Elliott in awhile, comes at a time set to boost the anemic state of radio, the charts, and dance pop. Not so futuristic out the gates with the DMX “Up In Here” style fanfare, but it quickly gets Missy-er as it goes, a cappella over the beat, tickles of flutes, references to Muhammad Ali. Lyrically, it’s all about the money’s got, probably thanks to that Two Flavors, One Bag campaign.

“Ching-A-Ling”‘s her contribution to the Step Up 2: The Streets soundtrack (trailer), which is out 2/5. It’s also set to appear on her next album, which is due out this year and reportedly features a collab with Amy Winehouse alongside production from Danja, Swizz Beat, and a return to Missy’s booth for Timbaland.
