At the start of November we debuted and were impressed with Berliner Joe Jackson’s guitar-free “King Pleasure Time” from Rain, his first album since 2003′s Volume 4. As Rain‘s release date approaches (it’s out tomorrow), Joe’s back with “Invisible Man,” another strong showing. Here he is live at Islington Academy, London. Note the precision cymbals as well as the way Jackson puts his entire body into his singing.

We also have “Invisible Man” in handy MP3 takeaway form, along with extensive tour dates, after the jump.

Funny, we made a bad “Hammer Time” joke for “King Pleasure Time” and here he is singing, “you can’t touch / the Invisible Man.” What’s with the MC Hammer subtext, Joe?

Rain is out 1/29 on Ryko Disc. The album’s ten tracks were recorded with 3/4 of the original Joe Jackson Band, who’ll also be his touring lineup: To recount, that’s Joe on piano/vocals and the original Joe Jackson Band rhythm section of bassist/vocalist Graham Maby and Dave Houghton on drums and vocals. Right, the guys in the video … tight. You have ample opportunity to catch them live:

It’s pretty amazing his voice has NOT aged a bit since the 70s. Pretty rare.
