Director Ace Norton’s no fool: When creating a video, you take an artist’s strengths, and exploit them. That’s obviously Norton’s approach to the great lead single from the Mountain Goats’ deeply evaluated Heretic Pride, scrawling John Darnielle’s winding lyrics around a set, over arms, and across shirts, all captured in one extendedly poetic take. If someone asks what is hyper-literate folk rock, here’s your link.

Heretic Pride is out 2/19 on 4AD.

I’m not really a Mountain Goats fan, but I might be after watching this awesome video 20 times, as I’m sure to do.
love the play with the typography…fitting for the Mountain Goats.
Goddamn that’s a good video. And a great song.

if a songwriter doesn’t build a career off of being “hyper-literate”..does that make them illiterate?
