As you may have heard, the White Stripes have decided to release a Spanish version of their Patti Page cover — so now, instead of “Conquest,” we also have “Conquista.” Jack, you are the king of method singing. Along with a 7″ of the tune — on which the band’s called Las Rayas Blancas — there’s a new video. Well, sort of. Something about this is really familiar.

Remember Gus Van Sant’s Psycho? This is Jack’s. Meg’s still cute in Spanish. The single’s out 2/19 on Warner Bros.

That shit is funny, specially if you speak Spanish and realize how off he is on the pronunciations. Yet he sings with such conviction, it’s impossible to hold it against him.

  4. OMG!!!!
    that’s so baaad… but hilarious….. (but baaad)

that’s the WTF of the day.

I don’t think his pronunciation is actually that bad.

If your are a spanish native speaker, his pronunciation is awful……….very funny but awful…………..

i don’t understand why two of the three videos off icky thump had to be translated into spanish. usually i can kind of see how jack connects his little artistic touches into a larger picture but this just seems weird. especially since the cover of the album is british clothes in what appears to be the american south. you don’t have to try and please everyone jack.

I’m mexican (so I speak spanish) and Jack’s pronunciation is horrible.

i am spanish as well, while his spanish isn’t AMAZING (expected) the effort is commendable. Jack has never half assed anything and has an amazing work ethic. I don’t think he’s taken a real break in about 10 years.

While its easy to get distracted by the fact that he’s singing in spanish, you can quickly forget that he trained with authentic bull fighters to pull off a realistic performance in this video.

This is a nice bonus bonus from their icky thump era but i’d rather see some new seven inches with some new songs.

Hmmmm this puts the Stripes in the same league as Bon Jovi singing “Cama De Rosas”.

The only singer i have ever known to sing in Spanish, phonetically, and pull it off (almost) flawlessly was Nat King Cole.

The rest sound either like they learned from Hooked On Phonics En Espaniol or as if they are deaf.
