The main thread running through our PE of Beach House’s great, gazy second effort was to examine the band’s marked growth, “You Came To Me” being particularly on point: “We don’t think they could’ve written this song a year ago.” We don’t think they could’ve made this video a year ago, either. At least not on the budget and foresight tip. Compare: Beach House‘s “Master Of None” was a trippy Baltimore house party of slow motion and soft focus, and here Alex and Victoria trade up to higher definition slow fades and soft dissolves. Hands go walking, shadows cast long, the stage is set for two, with handfuls of stardust to blow. Say what you want, but you can’t say they don’t know who they are. Skizz Cyzyk directs.

Beach House is out 2/26 on Carpark.

CD review: Air
tornadic vocals from Beach House siren Victoria Legrand). Even creepier is “Who Am I Now?”—breathy, vaguely ominous vocals from Brooklyn indie-popsters Au Revoir Simone, trembling strings and a waltz tempo combine to create a nightmarish lullaby.
Stream Air's 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune'
The album is actually double the run time of the 14-minute film, but that's because Air have Beach House's Victoria Legrand and Au Revoir Simone on a couple tracks. Stream it over here. Le Voyage Dans La Lune is due out on Feb. 7.

  1. sorry i keep saying it, but still think this will reign supreme as one of the best albums of the year. i can do nothing but gush about it. and this song is a great example of their mastery. video is pretty special too.

  2. It probably will.

  3. After listening to it nonstop for two weeks, right now I think it IS the best album of the year.
