Almost a year back we saw what bassist Sean Neary’s been up to since leaving the T’NT fold (off saving the world, that guy is). Now it’s time to see how the Tapes are faring. Fire up the Movable Type, the band that permeated the blogosphere so richly as to get Jann to wake up (for a minute) is back. “Hang Them All”‘s the lead track on the Tapes’ Dave Fridmann-produced sophomore full-length. On the plus side, Fridmann didn’t go all Mercury Rev on ‘em, so fans can rest easy; it’s a rocker, with organ strains in the hook. On the flip: if you didn’t give a shit before, you definitely still will not.

For the digital audiophiles out there, or “super duper music geeks” as T’NT say, you can grab a FLAC file at the band’s site. Walk It Off is out 4/8 via XL. To pre-order tix to the band’s upcoming tour, head here.

too good, can’t wait for it all. this one does not disappoint.

  6. Way less rockin’ than I remember it live, but still sounds great. Love the fact that the keys are featured more prominently. I can’t friggin’ wait for the album. I still listen to The Loon at least once a fortnight.

sounds like indie by the numbers.

i guess it could be worse.

It has a really different feel from The Loon, but I can’t wait until the new album comes out. I got to see them in DC in ’06 and it was a damn good show.

I didn’t really go crazy for ‘The Loon’, to be honest. But this is good. I dig it.

  13. Very good song – I like the tight arrangement. Very much looking forward to the album.

why doesn’t the chorus of the song come until the last 50 seconds? learn how to write a song boys, because it’s pretty boring to that point.

  15. Anyone else think these guys sound exactly like The Features? Love the song, but they might as well be clones.

Is it me or does it sound like they mixed this advance to sound a bit distorted? I heard more of the album and it all sounds that way.

That would be a creative way to let people preview it without releasing the final product…

Such a good band, I hope to god they don’t become popular. Like, look at how many people love Vampire Weekend, they totally suck now.

    • so vampire weekend was good, but then they got popular so they arn’t good?

i hope you are being sarcastic.

grow up, their album was good then and is still good now

  18. The early drum parts remind me of “Where I End and You Begin.”
