After initial listens, we’re especially digging the Oldham guest spots, “Blue Orchids,” and, again, “Moorestown” (Sorry, Cherry Hill). Again, April is out 4/1 on Kozelek’s Caldo Verde.

Originally released in Portugal (2002), this updated, hardback, all-English edition includes Kozelek’s lyrics from the Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek albums and special edition compilations, as well as several concert set lists and handwritten lyrics, plus a new preface by Kozelek himself.
It’s available in an edition of 2,500, which comes with a 12-song bonus CD, Nights LP, with live and rare versions of MK tunes from ’96-’07.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked “Tiny Cities,” but this is much closer to the Sun Kil Moon I love. Not sure yet if it’s gonna’ be on par with “Ghosts,” but so far it sounds awesome.
No, I’ll get you wrong. “Tiny Cities” was ass.
I think this is not only on par with “Ghosts…” but also with some of RHP’s best stuff. So far, it makes the cut for one of the year’s best.
After first listen I’m kinda underwhelmed. I’ll keep at it though.
It’s gorgeous. Like all of Kozelek’s best work, a mix of haunting and beautiful. A much more stripped-down sound over the album, to contrast with the the big full sounds of Ghosts.
