You’ve argued about the four-minute instrumental intro and weighed in on the rectangularly collagist cover, but here’s something that should bring Death Cab fans together: a new tune, about a girl, performed solo acoustic by Ben Gibbard. It may waft by without much impact at first, but give “Cath” a second and third glance and it will possess your heart. If it feels too slight for you, though, remember it’s just a live session for BBC 6; the studio version may feature rampant jams and bass vamps yet.

  3. This feels like “Company Calls Pt. 3″, and the Epilogue is my favorites DCFC song, so this settles well on my end.

  4. that’s some pretty strumming by gibby.
sounds like a return to the “the photo album.” definitely a GREAT thing.

Yeah, this song totally grows on you; wonderfully catchy. Sounds like a pretty nice medium between Transatlantacism and Photo Album… can’t wait to hear it with some nice production.

  8. what a relief. At least there will be one decent song on the new album.

    possess sucks

  9. I like this, but I really liked “Possess” too, so there you go.

Aah, this is nice. Death Cab should definitely sound more like Sun Kil Moon and less like Secret Machines.

Ever since I purchased “Narrow Stairs,” Cath has been my favorite track on the album. It has a beautiful, sad story line that is contrasted with its upbeat lyrics. I really enjoy the solo acoustic performance of it by Ben Gibbard. He sounds even better live than on the album.

Its obvious that most people don’t appreciate the long intro to “I Will Possess Your Heart.” I must admit that at first I was a bit confused by the song’s long, repetitive introduction. But it eventually grew on me, and I think its a solid song to start the album with. I also think the lyrics are beautifully crafted.
