Oh, happy day. We get to share some Fleet Foxes with you. If you were a Stereogum reader way back in March of 2008, you probably remember the gushfest that went down after the Sub Pop troupe’s Bowery Ballroom triumph, so there’s little more to add to that lot aside from, well, we are still crushing on that night, the Sun Giant EP, and every second of the forthcoming, self-titled full-length. “White Winter Hymnal” is where we start on the MP3 front and If you pick up on a trace of Jim James, or the Band or CSNY, or more contemporary psych-folk (say, in the harmonies) … good ears, they are there and sure, let them simmer a bit. But don’t hold on to them too tightly; the Foxes take those touchstones and cycle through for something reverent yet new, much deserving it’s own dusty, bearded corner in your music collection.

Our favorite discovery of 2008, without question. Fleet Foxes is out 6/3 on Sub Pop. And yes they’re rich on record, but they are transformative LIVE. So if you’re anywhere near Seattle, check ‘em at Sub Pop’s SP20 anniversary show … of hop a flight to the UK:

    more, please.

  4. Wow! great job! this song was out way back in September of last year and yes it is great but it’s not anything new.

how long has it been out that you’re a douche bag?

      • Great comeback! I would expect more from someone who gets their name from an obscure dutch painter. I was simply pointing out that this was nothing new and most likely only a chance for Stereogum to stroke their own ego for letting everyone know how amazing the Fleet Foxes are after first giving them a mediocre review. The Foxes have been killing it in Seattle for some time now and anyone who was paying attention has definitely heard this already. Nothing new just a blog trying to look like they’re in the know.

yeah. not to be a snob, but theres nothing new about this. its the same crack that came out last fall.

  7. best band to come out of 2008. i call it now. AND I MEAN IT.
ep and the full length are blowing my mind. constantly.

  8. .. . which leads me _back_ to the age-old “problem” of: ‘how many times can a mind be blown’? .

    i love this

  11. can’t wait to see them at Pitchfork (which btw is in July, not June).

Some of you are such douches, quit your bitching. While the song has been on their myspace page for a while it still is “new”. The song/album doesn’t (legally) come out until June, so get off your high horses!

    • It’s not about the Myspace page. KEXP has been playing this song since mid July early August last year. So when you come out and say new song by the Fleet Foxes it should be something that most people haven’t heard not something thats been getting radio play for over six months.

  13. I’ve been on this band for a while now. Their stuff is by all accounts: new. Whether by sound or by release date, it is original and excellent. I not only grabbed their Sun Giant [EP], but I also got their album “Ragged Wood” already. It doesn’t quite meet the standard that the EP sets up, but is still phenomenal and highly recommended.

they have 4 songs up on daytrotter today.

  16. Lazy Journalism!

  17. This song sounds like Panda Bear. And the album cover does, too. These are good things!
