The Ohian duo have emerged from the basements and the factories and fallen into the arms of Danger Mouse and Letterman. We gave props to Attack & Release across the board — better writing, interesting production (obviously) — now all that remains is to weigh in on the live show. From the look of the itinerary, we won’t be seeing ‘em until Lollapalooza, so thanks to Letterman for giving them some late night love. The Keys picked a tune that needs no Danger to impress with a plow through the anvil-slamming, scuzz-blues riffage of “I Got Mine.” Paul and Dave are impressed.

Attack & Release is out via Nonesuch.

  1. so… is he too fat for indie?!?!?

  2. That, hands down, absolutely fucking rocked.

  3. Ah, thank so much for posting this. I promised myself I was going to stay up to watch it, but ended up falling asleep anyway. I’m so glad they played “I Got Mine” instead of “Strange Times”.

Though, to be fair, this is their second or third Letterman performance. ;)

I don’t think they’ll have any trouble selling you guys during the live show, I just caught them at the Warfield in SF and they were fantastic. Enjoy Lollapalooza.

Looks like they get the Letterman seal of approval. I can’t wait to see these guys live. Just another month or so.

Good goddamn!!! i’m so glad these guys are finally getting their come-up-ance. I saw them blow Dinosaur Jr off the stage last year, they are not to be overlooked as the best live act going.

I can’t put into words how much they rock. The Black Keys redefine music in our time.

i was at that show too. This was the stand out song for me. Sounds so much better live.

“is he too fat for indie?” are you too stupid for life? as far as I can tell.

Flawless performance. Catch them on tour, it’s amazing.

    • i was merely attempting to spark an enthralling philosophical debate. i feel so bad now! seriously though jordan are you too fat to take a fat joke? as far as i can tell.

Dave is the only host that actually listens to the music. I hate Jay Leno. I don’t really like duos like that, but those guys are swell.

A bad back forced me to miss their recent Seattle show.

I will now be ripping my spine out and stomping on it.

Wow…. they rock live. I love watching them just freakin’ attack a song like that. I think Pat may have been drooling.

I love these guys, but. . . hotdamn if they’re pretty much just writing the same song over and over over over.
