Alison “VV” Mosshart and Jamie “Hotel” Hince brought their nicknames and quotation marks to 30 Rock last night being for the benefit of Mr. O’Brien. Midnight Boom‘s chanting “Sour Cherry” came off relatively well and probably won over some young’ns looking for a new fashionable band to adore, although personally we prefer the more subtle smolder of “U.R.A. Fever.”

As Fimoculous reminded us last night, it’s fun to toggle RedLasso’s closed captioning button during music performances (particularly when the lyrics are less obvious than here). Midnight Boom is out via Domino.

This was actually a pretty lackluster performance…I didn’t think all that much of their new CD for awhile but it definitely grows on you, last day of magic is probably the best track of the year so far for any band. Also anyone know what kind of guitar he uses? Jaguar?

  2. Ugh, two words people. Royal Trux.

I like the song and the performance (as much as one can enjoy watching a band play on a talk show). But I agree that the new album was a bit of a disappointment and not nearly as interesting as No Wow and Keep Me on Your Mean Side.

  4. This band is embarassing.

Im just getting into The Kills. I bought Midnight Boom last week and I really like it. I think the first 6 songs are the best on the album, and Sour Cherry of course. I watched this last nigt, it was pretty good. Are drummers and bass players becoming obsolete?

  7. Yikes. In ten years, we will know this band only because of a repeat of “Gossip Girl” being on.

  8. discount > the kills

  9. this was one of the most boring tv appearances ive seen. i don’t watch all of these but this was simply really boring.

  10. you guys are lame. this was awesome.

  11. I’m calling shenanigans on all you haters. I will agree with the Beck fan (first poster) that LAST DAY OF MAGIC is the best song of the year. If there ends up being a better song, it will be required to literally melt my face off.

WTF? This song is like straight out of Escape Club’s “Wild Wild West’ circa 1988.

when there is a live performance and about 68 percent of the music is pre-recorded it is LAME. There is even a vocal dub they are singing along to. LAME. At least ashlee simpson is kind of cute.

The kills are one of the best bands to come out in a while. It is very random that you see such creativity. Some of the songs can get dull if listened too much but that is the beauty in them. Each song is like a little gem that shines more at different times. The minimalism is the best part too. The less you have, the more you have to reach and struggle to be creative, therefore forming a more interesting product. The kills are indeed a force to be reckoned with and if you dont like the kills you dont like music. I saw them live at webster hall may 1rst and they are amazeing!

The kills are a menace to music……….much like haircut 100; a low res blip on the high dpi screen…….the blur obscures the ruse; no chops, no tunes and an unabashed grab at copping the sincere moves of true rockers. All the money that’s spent on their buy-ins, buy-outs, comps, ads, and pay to plays will never sustain the sickly growth that is the kills as they have no roots….they’ll gladly boost the flower but have no guts to fuel or feed it……they will always be needy and lacking

  17. I like the Kills old stuff much better, but this is still OK…

  18. I believe he plays a Hofner 175.
