A couple days ago those Consolers of The Lonely the Raconteurs tore through a couple electric songs on Jools Holland — “Salute Your Solution,” “Consoler Of The Lonely.” Afterwards (or before, because who knows when it was recorded) they stripped down for an acoustic “Many Shades Of Black” for Holland’s BBC website. It’s a subdued, but pleasant take. There are some smiles, nervous three-part backup harmonies. Jack looks a tad listless here and there, but he does get into it, for sure, nodding with his eyes closed and singing along by the time we get to the close.

Additionally, throwing one hell of a curve ball, Raconteurs loaned fellow Jools performer Bon Iver a guitar so he could dig into “Flume.”

Beautiful, but we can’t help but imagine a collaborative “Skinny Love.”

That’s one of the rare instances where Brendan doesn’t mess up the lyrics. He’s always great though.
Any Raconteurs fans out there make sure to check out their cover of Charley Jordan’s “Keep It Clean” where Jack counsels girls to clean up their yeah yeah yeah, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC3rD5Srai0 . They also threw in a Little Red Rooster on the 14th after hearing Mick Jagger and Ron Wood were in the audience, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WHPquRXn48.

  2. I really want to like the Raconteurs (and for the most part I do), but their albums sound too clean or something. Here, they sound gritty and raw, how I imagine them to, and actually like “raconteurs”. Cool video and good song.

Yeah, that was my impression too, after seeing them – I thought that if they’d released Broken Boy Soldiers after their tour instead of before, it would be even more rockin’. But then this album came out, and it does rock more, but doesn’t seem exactly *better*… I dunno, still only listened to it twice.

But I mainly wanted to say that Jack’s hair looks like a cross between Robert Smith and Sharon Osborne’s.

  3. I’m scared that Brendan is turning into Jeff Lyne.
