Red has been leaking bit by bit — three songs here, four songs there — and so far we’re all a little less than enthused. Remember when people were enthused, though? Way back when we first sampled “Pork And Beans“? It has an official video now. And that official video involves Tay Zonday. But no worries, nobody gets Rick Rolled, and there are about a dozen and a half other YouTube celebs (like this guy or those gals) in it, too. We missed you Numa Numa Dance guy. Srsly. It’s like internet people, Weezer style. The Chris Crocker cameo? =w= saying “leave Rivers aloooone.” Not like you will, but still. Cute. Like the people in the Iraq, such as.

Hey you guys, get up here!

  3. Ah, that was awesome. So was Keep Fishin’ with the Muppets, sadly the only other Weezer video I’ve seen…

  4. Trey Parker  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Really cool idea. Good execution.

  5. It’s sad I recognized every single meme.

I love the Brandon Flowers cameo! Oh wait…..Rivers

  7. Awesome video! I’m embarrassed I knew who all those people were. I wonder if in the future some people will come across this video and have no idea what is going on.

Too bad Barenaked Ladies already had this idea about a year and a half ago for the Sound of Your Voice video.

It’s still a fun video and a pretty good song, though.

  9. What Scott said. I liked it. Funners.

When Weezer is on, they’re excellent. When they’re off, they’re dreadful. This is the former.

  11. here is a better version of the video (original one): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muP9eH2p2PI

  12. marsh  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    enjoyable

  13. i liked everything except the song, and rivers’ mustache

immediate 5-point deduction for the inclusion of the “OMG SHOES” guy. other than that it was awesome. the part where rivers hugs chris crocker is oddly poignant too. and damn, k-fed is getting faaaaaat.

    • Sharon  |   Posted on May 26th, 2008

See I could defend the OMG Shoes guy…but that would just crunk the ego. And I could diss it, but then that wouldnt be true. So stuck with, nice…v nice Liam. Enjoy Cho!

  15. Aaaaaaah, fuggin’ excellent. :]

  16. Larry Dickman  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

That video could have used some lemon party. Maybe some meat spin too.

  17. rivers is a meme!

  18. Sirrockaby  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

Hey stereogum, how about you post the video that Weezer put on YouTube it is in sync.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muP9eH2p2PI

  19. So who’s gonna start the list of all the references?

  20. Ryan  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

This is pretty funny. Quality song, too. I checked out what’s leaked, and some of it is pretty awful, but “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived,” “Pig,” and “Automatic” rank up there with some of their best. It’s nice to see them getting things right again for a change.

  21. this video is another reason why were still all in love with Weezer. Its like your dumb older brother that sometimes messes up….you still love him even though he’s an idiot sometimes. Cause you know, deep down there is genius in him.

    • Brilliant analogy. Exactly. Rivers can be downright awful sometimes, but I know — and, as you said, I think most of us know this deep down — that he’s capable of being really awesome sometimes, as is the rest of the band. This video exemplifies what I love about them. They’ve still got that Weezer charm, despite the cheesy lyrics. Love it.

Also, drumming with lightsabers? Freaking AWESOME.

  22. I just want to know where Old Greg was.

  23. I’m surprised they didn’t use the GI JOE scene where the dude is yelling “Porkchop Sandwiches!”

  24. barry  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

That was like the ‘Free as a Bird’ video only for youtube.
And I actually even like the song

  25. Sean  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Really? Really.

That was awful. What happened to actual, decent music videos with actual, decent ideas? Congrats, Weezer, enjoy your extra 15 minutes on VH1 while your music goes down the shitter.

  26. Brian  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

Cool idea for a video, but the terrible song just drags it down.

Weezer should’ve stopped at the Blue Album – they’d be legends.

  27. James  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Pinkerton > Blue Album

Pinkerton is a masterpiece and a huge achievement in pop music. They are already legends Brian. Isn’t one masterpiece enough you greedy bastard.

  28. Brian  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Oops, I meant Pinkerton.

I know they’re both masterpieces. Just saying they should’ve stopped there while they were ahead. Now they’ve just gone to shit.

  29. Dajebus  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2008

    Oh lord.
    We get it.
Pinkerton was AMAZING. It SO SPOKE to you when you were 2*! I loved that album so much!! GOD!
But time to move the fuck on right? Please? grow up a tiny bit?

What is the MOST commented thing on the gum? You got it. Weezer stuff!

Please go pretend that the new Death Cab album does not BORE the shit out of you and let the masses have there fun? k?

Yes the Barenaked ladies did it first but it was a boring song by a boring bad.
Like your girlfriend will tell you, it’s not who is first, it’s who is the most fun :)

  30. tyler  |   Posted on May 24th, 2008

um wasn’t there a South Park episode with all of these YouTube celebs in a much funnier context a while ago?

  31. ubet  |   Posted on May 24th, 2008

    THIS SONG KICS FUCKING ASS!

God, I love Weezer. I just hope the album doesn’t suck. No one does it better than Rivers.

  32. stew  |   Posted on May 25th, 2008

Dear God!!! – Rivers please shoot yourself already

  33. calvin the super genius  |   Posted on May 25th, 2008

    That was… amazing.

  34. greg  |   Posted on May 27th, 2008

    wow… that was boring

  35. Boy Williams  |   Posted on May 28th, 2008

I liked it. You can always count on Weezer videos to be entertaining. Interesting how pop culture references have gone to the Internet and away from TV. By TV, I mean televison, not transvestites.

  36. Carrie Bradshaw  |   Posted on May 28th, 2008

What’s with these homies dissing my band? I decided to give Big one last chance. I know I can trust myself, but can I trust him? Meanwhile, Charlotte was across town, tending to the apartment she loves and the city she doesn’t.

  37. that’s the best video ever! Tay Zonday of ‘Chocolate Rain’ fame, Miss South Carolina Chris Crocker,Kevin Federline were a fuckin fantastic idea! Even Charlie the unicorn appears in this video!!!

  38. I think people are just really willing to give this band the benefit of the doubt. I mean, everyone loves blue and pink – so Rivers could poop on a microphone, and at the very least, it would be nostalgia-smelling poop. NAWMEAN?
