Note: Wire isn’t covering Joan Osbourne. It’s the post-pop single and opening track from the legendary UK post-punkers’ 11th studio album — the 47th overall item in the discography — fittingly called Object 47. They wrote it themselves. “One Of Us” doesn’t have the coiled energy of the band’s best work, but after a dozen listens, it’s definitely grown on us. Object is the first full-length since 2003′s Send — the band’s currently working as the trio of Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, and Robert Grey — but if you heard ’07′s Read And Burn 03 EP, you might assume you’d have a better idea of what to expect. OK, not really. “One Of Us” has a super bass sound, but this is something less jagged, all-around smoother, with a (small) stadium-arced chorus. Just in time for festival season.

This is growing on us, for sure. Different, but good. While we’re talking about laid-back Wire pop songs, let’s talk this:

(Remember Flying Saucer Attack’s version?) If you’re in the NYC area, they play the South Street Seaport on 5/30. In June, they hit some festivals. Find out more at their MySpace. And, if you’re curious, the Object 47 songs:

01 “One of Us”
02 “Circumspect”
03 “Mekon Headman”
04 “Perspex Icon”
05 “Four Long Years”
06 “Hard Currency”
07 “Patient Flees”
08 “Are You Ready?”
09 “All Fours”

Object 47 is out 7/7 on their own Pink Flag.

  1. sound more like their underrated, mid-80s stuff… ideal copy era, sort of.

don’t expect them to play old stuff next week. wire are not nostalgists.
