Missy Elliott’s new album Block Party is out at the end of the summer, just in time to miss your Labor Day block parties. The Danja-produced first single “Best, Best” is a little reminiscent of Liz Phair doing her Avril impersonation, Elliott gloating about her man taking her to the mall, calling him her boo, getting “crunk in the club,” and letting us know that “He the best / He the bomb / He cute / He fly / He fresh / He give me / Good sex” and that “We fuss fuss / We fight fight.” They also “Kiss kiss / All the time time,” though, so it’s all good good. As she mentions at the beginning of the track, this is Missy in R&B mode. Above is what the cover art for the single looks like. This is how the single sounds:

Laid back, silly, slightly fun. And, speaking from experience (unfortunately), it should be easier to karaoke than “Work It.”

Block Party is out 9/9 on Atlantic.

    Blah.

    Blah, blah, double-blah.

Missy, you fat cow. Quit. Please. I beg of you.

    • The song is terrible but why bring her weight into it? No one wants this from her- I’d rather hear a half-assed rehash of “Gossip Folks”- but that still seems unnecessary.

well, the record label can’t be too impressed with her since they are not going for a summer release. Too bad… I love Missy but she needs to climb a mountain. This song can grow on you and that is the problem, her work is usually instantaneously infectious.

i havent liked anything from missy since.. hot boyz.
theres something about her that just comes off as trying to hard.
i dont like the song… but its a club banger, for sure. its going to work.
I definately see girls at a club dancing to this, and strippers.

  9. Missy is one of those artists that isn’t going anywhere. She knows how to make hits and make money!!! :) You Go GIRL!
