No rest for the weary, says the internet. Just as I’d poured coffee in the cup and myself on the couch this A.M. in an attempt to rehab some Bonnaroo soreness, we received notice that Lollapalooza 2008 has finalized their dancecard. Time to start microplanning the next fest! We’ll be reporting live from Grant Park this summer, and if you’ll be there, too, I guess it’s never too early to start scheduling your weekend. Especially if you plan on seeing Kanye West, who’s slated for 8:30PM Sunday night (which means he’ll go on at 4:30AM, obvs).
After a quick glance I’m not seeing too many potential conflicts for the day stuff, save maybe Battles/Broken Social Scene/Lupe Fiasco on Saturday, and Girl Talk/Gnarls Barkley on Sunday. Wisely, Lolla’s slated no competition for Friday night — it’s Radiohead at 8 on the mainstage, while the rest of the park goes dark. The other headlining slots should cut the crowd in interesting ways: Rage Against The Machine vs. Wico Saturday night, Nine Inch Nails v. Ye on Sunday. And by interesting I mean testosterone.

friday from 6-8 is rough, but the schedule allows for some serious sleeping in
For everyone that boo’d kanye. First your dumb for staying around that long to watch a band. Second your dumb cause you were there on your own free will and should only be mad at yourself for staying as long as you did
And…YOU’RE dumb. Learn to spell.
shit I can’t decide whether I camp out and miss a good spot for Radiohead or go see Grizzly Bear and CSS and see Radiohead from the far off distance
:\
I am thinking the exact same thing. I will probably end up tryijng to catch Grizzly Bear and a little of CSS, then push my way as close as possilbe to radiohead.
explosions > bss> wilco = ridiculousness
Maybe Kanye will be 2.5 hrs late again so we can just slide over for his set after NIN? Anyone know where Lolla or the city of Chicago stand on late sets?
Yeah, I think I might be counting on that too. Anyone know?
and why the fuck would they create that competition anyway? I think the combination of both Reznor’s and the Ye’s egos on stage at the same time might actually blow up Grant Park.
But, FUCK, BSS and Battles is killin me alreadyyyyy.
The Raconteurs throw a wrench into Sat. evening. The Toadies going on before RATM is bordering on ludicrous.
Also, if “they boo’d Kanye”, does that mean the audience collectively made him their “boo”?
Maybe they were saying “Boo-urns”?
I can’t wait.
not many conflicts this year for me, with the exception of the raconteurs vs bloc party and gnarls vs girl talk. someone help me out here. does bloc party suck live? is girl talk overrated? friday looks like the best day imo.
Bloc Party is really good live. Then again, Jack White always brings it. That’s a tough call, but I’d go for The Raconteurs mainly because I haven’t seen them.
National leading in to NIN. That’s ballsy.
Cannot wait for another weekend in Grant Park.
Anyone else notice Santogold isn’t on the schedule, even though she’s on the Lolla poster and her MySpace says going to be there on Friday? Kinda wanted to see her. Battles vs. Broken Social Scene is gonna kill me…
according to perez, this year’s line up is “kinda blah.”
http://perezhilton.com/2008-06-17-kinda-blah
hilarious! his definition of awesome is hosting a katy perry album party. he’s such a douche.
I’m not going this year, because a friend of mine won’t give me a straight answer on whether he wants to go or not. But if I were, I see a few conflicts. Black Keys/Gogol Bordello, Broken Social Scene/Battles/Lupe, and the big ones Rage/Wilco and Ye/NIN. Looks like some people are going to have some tough decisions.
As much as I love Wilco, I’ll probably end up hitting RATM on Saturday (if I’m able to make it that day). Their live show is in the legendary category, and would probably be fun in a nostalgic way. Same for NIN with the ’90s nostalgia, plus I enjoyed the Slip in a way that really surprised me.
But I agree, those are some tough headline choices. I figured Radiohead would close out the last day, but I am kind of glad they kick it off on Friday.
Why the f*ck are Toadies playing Lolla this year? Seriously.
Because the toadies kick ass, that’s why. If you don’t like it, you can stay home and listen to that new lil wayne album. Seriously! Bitch!
I went 2 yrs ago when Kanye was there and Lolla was pretty strict about gettin people out at the end. Heard it was because of Chicago noise ordinances. So, Ye better put his ego in check, or resolve any other issues that would result in a less than prompt start to his set.
Maybe because it’s in his hometown he’ll get it together…or not.
I still don’t get that whole “Dierks Bently” thing. Does he have the same booking agent as Jack Johnson?
While this year’s lineup isn’t as awesome IMO as last year’s, I am really looking forward to it (Radiohead, Gogol, National, Uffie). I still don’t know what I will do for the NIN/Kanye dilemma…but I think I am the only person in Chicago who doesn’t like Wilco. Makes Saturday night easy.
Could you provide an example of TR huge ego? I’m not seeing it…especially since you’ve chosen to compare him to Kanye’s ego. Ah screw it, I’m not gonna wait….you sir are full of shit!
If you want to get specific, I guess I wouldn’t exactly call Reznor egotistical, especially compared to kanye; more so whiny. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan (and I’m not about to get into one of those arguments where a die hard NINer defends his man), but I think it’s justifiable to say that TR has got his moments.
anyway, lollapalooza, thanks a lot. battles and BSS atthesametime! deciding between those two and then the two on sunday night is going to suck.
Are there fewer stages this year? I thought there were nine last year, including the kids stage.
bloc party and css and playing an afterparty show the next day so people can catch the raconteurs and not worry about missing bloc party or css’s sets.
GIRL TALK is not to be missed!
i absolutely can’t wait for cat power and the kills, but i haven’t bought tickets yet..
will the three day passes sell out quickly or what???
Yeah Grant Park will have none of it after midnight. Notice those final sets start around 8:00 each night. Perfect for Lolla all day/party all night.

Ravinia up in Highland Park (northern Chi burb) has to stop at 11pm, but I dunno about downtown. And Kanye just wrote an all-caps blog about how the ‘roo fiasco wasn’t his fault. I still can’t decide! NIN or Ye?
