As mentioned in April and then seconded last week via a couple of album tracks, Conor Oberst’s first solo collection in a lucky 13 years is just around the corner. Oberst is calling it Conor Oberst, so it makes good sense he’s also including a photo of himself on the cover. The black and white image (with some kinda Rembrandt-meets-Ansel Adams lighting) finds Mr. Bright Eyes getting shuteye at home in his cave on his favorite hammock, the missus back by the fire.

Remember, Oberst recorded the 12 new tracks in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico and Merge got mystical about it: “In Tepoztlán, a place known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings, a temporary studio was created in a mountain villa called Valle Místico at the outskirts of town.” Looks like he’s having an Indiana Jones moment.

Conor Oberst is out 8/5 on Merge. See Conor wide awake:

  1. This is a crazy amount of tour dates. Im looking forward to having him in the UK.

  2. the cover art is *totally* representative of a vagina.

Good call on the Indy reference, ‘gum. I think its a cross between that, Sun Kil Moon’s “April” cover and Antony & The Johnsons’ “I Am a Bird Now” cover. Probably because both of those covers are in black & white too.

Oh, man!! Conor Oberst and Jenny Lewis?!? That’s gonna be sweeeeeeeet…

Well, as long as Conor plays minimally from Cassadaga and Jenny plays absolutely nothing from Under the Blacklight!!

  7. tylenol monkey: you need to check up on your indie bands…there has been a lot of shifting…chances are it will be Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins (Not Rilo Kiley) and Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band (Not Bright Eyes) so i wouldn’t worry about either of your deepseated fears. Even though Cassadaga was the best BE album since Letting off the Happiness.
And James, one needs only to look at Motion Sickness to see that this is not the first time Conor has stooped SO LOW as to put himself on the cover of an album.
