Those soulful back-to-nature dreamcatchers N.D. Shineywater and Rachael Hughes, aka Brightblack Morning Light, are releasing Motion to Rejoin, their second album for Matador, third album overall, this fall. The collection — which follows 2006′s self-titled astral-projecting slumber party — was recorded in New Mexico in their solar-powered adobe. Jack Johnson gets shit for this sort of thing, yes, but Brightblack dress like Royal Trux-on-Devendra-on-Native America so they largely get a pass from the kids. The first taste of the new material, “Hologram Buffalo,” comes with a video/trailer that indeed includes a hologram buffalo along with crystals, tepees, feathers, and other trippy things to stare at. You can shut your eyes, though, because what’s more interesting is the song itself: Like their previous material, it’s dark, buoyant, and beautiful.
MP3 UPDATE:
Remember: “Life is on every wind.” If you don’t remember the last record, you can hear it here.
Motion To Rejoin is out 9/23 in the US and 11/10 in the UK and Europe on Matador.

this band is great. they have a great live show too. i interviewed them a couple of years ago and they are tripped out but not annoying.
i like the new tune and video
really? i saw em on a boat and they were really underwhelming.
You really gotta check ‘em out on dry land.
I saw them on dry land and just about fell asleep. Maybe I should try them on the open sea. Otherwise, overrated.
“jack johnson gets shit for this sort of thing…but BBML gets a pass”
that’s right: because jack johnson does the corporate shopping mall verison of groovy, and BBML actually live their lives in the style of their music. they wouldn’t be caught dead playing some corporate sponsored music festival, for example.
BBML walk their talk. jack johnson is the jimmy buffett of the 21st century.
