Following in the footsteps of Shearwater, Weezer have their very own Talk Talk cover. When we were rounding up Red‘s b-sides, their version of “Life’s What You Make It” came up in the comments, but we hadn’t heard it. Now we have. It’s a UK standard/Deluxe Edition and Japanese bonus. (If I’ve done my Weezer math correctly.) We went all the way to Australian YouTube to find it for you, and the cover’s been synced to the original Talk Talk video, creating an eerie deja effect.

Kudos. My favorite Red-related moment. Who’s singing it, though? Here’s the original.

Yeah, that’s Pat on vocals. Also sounds like him on lead guitar, while Rivers is on drums. I actually first heard of Talk Talk through Weezer in the Blue Album days, when Matt Sharp would namedrop them everywhere. It’s rather funny how they’ve finally got around to covering Talk Talk a decade after Matt left the band, but it seems he wasn’t the only Talk Talk geek in Weezer.

  6. Yep. It’s Pat. It’s not a bad song, definitely up Pat’s alley. I still haven’t found their cover of Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way,” though. That’s the last b-side, that I know of.
