Modest Mouse have been performing new material during their recent tours. In some shaky YouTube footage, for instance, we see Isaac bouncing through the jagged then poppy “Satellite Skin,” a track ostensibly from the forthcoming, still untitled EP. From the way the audience reacts — howls, screams, a single macho growl, and then dancing — you’d think they knew it by heart. Or, maybe they’re excited to see Brock strumming and singing solo-style and intimate-like at the beginning of the track.

From this clip at least, it seems like “Satellite Skin” shows up as the tail-end transition of another track. Confirm/deny? If that’s the case, it must already be a well-integrated part of the live show. Hence the fan reaction? Or maybe Modest Mouse fans are just easily excited.

damn, I was really hoping they weren’t going to go deeper in this musical direction, but clearly they are. oh well, they have the right to make what they want.

Saw them in St. Louis last week. The sound was awful…..way too much feedback. The tix were also $40. Wasn’t very impressed with their live show these days.

They have the right to make what they want, and I have the right to say that this fucking sucks. More bland, boring pop rock, oh yay. Good News was poppy enough, We Were Dead was worse, this is a nightmare.

We Were Dead was significantly LESS poppy than Good News… I suspect that you never listened to the album and just heard the two or three poppier singles. Good one…

you know what, paul (if that is your real name)? those rape allegations were never proven in a court of law. this is the united states of america motherfucker, innocent before PROVEN guilty. Go honk on bobo.

Yea, i don’t know what direction you guys mean he has kept going in, because this one sounds pretty unique, but MM in my book is a pretty much flawless band and this song keeps with that tradition.

  12. This new song sounds pretty pretty solid to me.

  13. Man, now I regret missing them when they were in orlando in June…good to know there’s new material though!

Their last album took a while to grow on me, but when it did I realized that their songs are just as involved as ever. Despite writing a couple of poppy songs per album they have yet to sell out like they could. Hell, even “Dashboard” had a ton of stuff going on underneath the surface.

  15. bobbaloo  |   Posted on Jul 10th, 2008

    happy fucking congratulations

  16. would you ride a truck if you could?  |   Posted on Jul 15th, 2008

MM’s we were dead tralalala was a nice album…despite the strings and horns as far as I remember there were actually any…

Modest Mouse is honestly the worst live band I’ve ever seen, by FAR. Their reputation has not recovered from the absolutely dreadful show I saw them put on in 06.

  18. they should have stayed dead after the ship sank.

  19. Emily  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2008

I saw them last fall and they were really good. Are you guys sure you were at MM shows?

  20. tylenolmonkey  |   Posted on Jul 16th, 2008

I think it’s pretty common for the quality of Modest Mouse shows to vary greatly… Isaac has good shows and then he also has really, really bad shows where he’s too fucked up to sing. I saw them once in Denver, CO and they were awesome and put on a flawless live show. I saw them again more recently in Norman, OK and Isaac was completely fucked up (drunk/stoned/??) anyway he stopped singing and Johnny Marr ended up singing vocals for about half of the show. So yes, we’re all taking about the same band here.

  21. manface  |   Posted on Nov 21st, 2008

i like it enough. not a bad addition to a great wall of songs.

  22. we we saints  |   Posted on Apr 1st, 2009

rapist?? he doesn’t have to rape.. is freaking issac brock.. your mother would sleep with this guy. get a life.

  23. Logan  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2009

The people who do not enjoy Modest Mouse clearly do not listen to their lyrics before talking about how up beat or down beat they are, they really emphasize all their songs on a meaning, and the meaning usually pertains to our everyday lives which is what makes them so great. This could be just my opinion but Modest Mouse deserves a lot more credit than some people give them.

  24. Neens  |   Posted on May 18th, 2009

Hey PAUL you fucking douchebag, the chick that claimed she was raped later went on to confess to her friends who eventually told the cops that she made the whole thing up so her boyfriend wouldn’t break up with her for cheating on him. She had a history of being a pathological liar. What she did to Isaac is unforgivable even though he has moved on and has to deal with ignorant mother fuckers like you still calling him a rapist. You should listen to the song Perfect Disguise, it’s all about that situation.

  25. Jason  |   Posted on May 21st, 2009

I Really like this song..they are great live on a good night- just like a lot of bands are on and off- i really like the artwork for this single- a departure from past mediocre covers. Cover Art is by Joshua marc Levy who did acdc. cant wait to hear rest of ep.

  26. I’ve seen Modest Mouse three times in concert and they were awesome all three times!! I have all their cds and i have a tattoo of the hot air balloon on my wrist. Them and Tool are my favorite bands. The flaming eye on Lateralus is on my other wrist. People who are gonna talk shit shouldn’t leave a comment.
