Last week, you might have seen the Kanye Absolut Vodka commercial floating around — the one with West’s head floating around in a glass of the strong stuff like Alka-Seltzers with attitude. If not, here it is. The idea is that Absolut partnered with “Visionaries” in creative fields who were instructed to dream up what life would be like “In An Absolut World.” Visionaries like Zach Galifiankis and Tim and Eric. We thought the made-for-viral video was amusing (Kanye-infused Apple Martini, please), but they’ve stepped it up a notch. This weekend, we stumbled upon a print ad in the Personals section of New York Magazine.

Pretty funny and subtle. Or, more so than this. Of course, there’s also a website. Maybe Kanye should stop blaming Bonnaroo for Bonnaroo and fess up to one too many Lemon Drops.

I watched the Throne, but where was Kanye West?
Shoreditch High Street Station, 5pm. Underneath a freezing sky, 100 or so bloggers, paparazzi and underemployed scions of the creative industries huddle on the pavement expectantly. We are here for – actually why are we here? No one is really ...

  1. it was also in last week’s village voice.

  2. The only thing more annoying than Kanye are suckers who buy designer liquor with rapper’s names on it.

I guess my rant is really meant for the recent Weezy / Champagne announcement since this is just Ye endorsing a preexisting product, but still. Gotta bitch about that somewhere and this looks like a good spot.

  3. haha, hilarious and clever ad campaign.

Kanye West shilling vodka is better than the racist, self-absorbed Vincent Gallo shilling for vodka.

  5. he broke my heart at Roo. we will never be the same again.

  6. I think the whole “Be Kanye” viral promo (and all it’s components) is clever. It’s cheeky and not just your regular product endorsement, he’s poking fun of the subliminal messages behind those endorsements: You too can be cool if you use this product. Isn’t that what the advertising industry sells? An image, a lifestyle.

That last paragraph makes you sound like a hater Brandon). Kanye may have asshole tendencies but his reason for being upset about the Boonaroo debacle are legit. If they couldn’t get the set together or schedule the line-up appropriately, then I’d say that was definitely the show organizer’s fault. What Kanye needs is a better PR team to spin shit like that in his favor.

    • Ah, I wasn’t being a hater — just a joker. I wasn’t at Bonnaroo, so I don’t have a beef with Kanye. Amrit was the one who had to wait out there all that time. I was standing up for Amrit. Because I have his back.

      • I would have been upset about the wait too, no doubt, but I guess I would have placed equal blame on the artist and the show organizers. I remember reading Amrit’s articles about his Kanye/Boonaroo experience. I felt for him. It sucks that Kanye doesn’t have the cognizance to apologize to the fans who waited for his middle-of-the-night super late set. But if the set was late because of things out of his control, I think we can cut him a little slack don’t you?

        • all i do/did is/was cut him slack. i am/was the biggest kanye apologist you can find. when people booed at Roo, i told all the angry hecklers “let’s wait and see what’s going on, maybe it’s not his fault, etc etc etc”, but to come out there and not even acknowledge it, no matter what the reason, especially when people already think you have a wee bit of an ego problem, well, it’s hard to turn the other cheek.

  7. kanye hits me because he loves me.

waiting out there was horrible. and yeah, he can poke fun at himself now and be real and likable and human now but not when it mattered. at 5 am on June 15th.
