talkdemonic-march_movement.jpg

“March Movement” is a fair name for the first one from Talkdemonic’s third LP. It’s an instrumental (save a few vocal moans), maintaining its melodic core, trading programmed beats here for acoustic beats there. There’s a gait flip, marching then loping, while Kevin O’Connor plucks banjos underneath his beats and Lisa Molinaro bows strings over top. Compositionally it’s simple — again the movement is in the march — but the track finds small-scale symphonic space in its joy of repetition. There’s hope for budding melodists: Sometimes all it takes is a good idea and two minutes to make an elegant sketch of music.
