Barack might have some competition for eyeballs this evening. Facts: The DNC caps off tonight at Mile High with Obama’s speech commemorating his nomination as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States of America. More facts: Earlier today a post went up to Dead Air Space suggesting you download flip4mac or VLC because they “might come in handy.”
Now BoingBoing‘s saying they have it on pretty good authority that there will be a webcast of Radiohead’s show in Santa Barbara tonight, which happens to be the last of their North American tour (thanks for the tip, Jen). We’ll keep you posted, but you might wanna download/set those DVRs nowish. (Also speaking of Dead Air Space, on June 22 Colin loved up Gabe and Max Silvestri‘s Internet Thing. This, the No Age tee … Colin I’m pretty sure we should be best friends.)

wow, it’s going to be a great night indeed. but i don’t see much of a conflict. i’d imagine obama will speak at around 10pm ET (if the other major speeches earlier this week are any indication) and the radiohead show wouldn’t come on till around midnight ET if you consider them not playing till 9pm pt. hopefully it’ll work out perfectly!
Um, i think I’d MUCH RATHER watch Obama. I mean, I like Radiohead, but who the fuck cares? We have the first major black candidate accepting the nomination of the Democratic party tonight. It’s going to be a VERY historical night.
Radiohead will fucking be on youtube tomorrow. I want to be able to tell my kids that I was glued to the screen when Obama gave tonight’s speech, regardless of if he wins or not, it’s incredible.

My wife was fortunate enough to snag tickets for the acceptance speech throught the lottery system….I guess there’s going to be musical guests opening up starting in about an hour with Yonder Mountain String Band, Sheryl Crow, John Legend, wil.I.am, Steview Wonder, and Bruce Springsteen/Jon Bon Jovi (rumored) to be closing out the music portion of the day.
You know, BOTH of them will be repeated for the next 24-48 hours in places on tv and on youtube, so saying that you’re not going to watch one because the other is going to be on really doesn’t work.

His speech was incredible, I have no regrets!
I have difficulty understanding our need as humans to see something, or someone, or some event (in this case) as being in opposition to another thing, or person, or event. Perhaps this discussion, and all our discussions would prove more useful if we did not assign a negative or positive value to things (in this case Radiohead or Obama) in terms of one being better than or more important than, the other. For many seeing Radiohead in Santa Barbara live at the Santa Barbara Bowl on Thursday night was something they had waited 15 years for (as in my own case). Yet, I did not see Obama’s speech as being contrary to that. I simply chose the event that I thought would give me personally the most utility at that moment. Similarly, Obama’s speech when I watched it later was also incredible and if anything made my ENTIRE night one of the best in my own life. I hope that no matter the decision people made they are happy with it and confident that it served whatever purpose they wanted it to.
Sorry if that wasn’t inflammatory enough but I get the sense that some people tend to be pretty callous on the internet because there is no accountability. However, being rude (even to people you don’t know and will never see) should never be our go-to communication style.
Do I dare believe my eyes? Did someone actually just post a positive, rational, considerately written statement in an online forum? And with correct spelling and grammar too . . . Just when I was about to give up hope for the human race.
