The last peep we got out of Andrew Bird was some literal whistling as part of Final Fantasy’s Toronto-based St. Kitts Orchestra on the second of Owen Pallet’s forthcoming EPs, Plays To Please. Bird played a number of festivals this spring and summer, though, most recently at Outside Lands at the end of August. During those sets, he previewed tracks from the unreleased Armchair Apocrypha followup, A Non-Animal. For instance, the percussive “Master Swarm” from 8/24 at the aforementioned Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park, SF.

“Master Swarm” @ Outside Lands

You can double check on this and see/hear more new AB (“Oh No!,” “Anonanimal,” and “Section 8 City”) from his set at at Cincinnati’s MusicNOW! Festival in April and another take on “Master Swarm” over at you aint no picasso.

  1. as perhaps the biggest a.bird fan on steregum (and the one who captured the webcast you posted :) ), this “young swan” song doesn’t exist. someone just misinterpreted his words. if you listen to the songs, they’re the same thing.

Gotta say, caught Mr. Bird at his free hometown gig at Pritzker Pavillion in Millenium Park and that was hott. He wooed the Chi crowd and brought out older and sneak peeks from the upcoming January release, lots of clapping and loops–loved it. So excited for the new record!

Dosh is such a perfect fit to do his drumming. And his solo album from this year is great as well. It’s called “Wolves and Wishes” and Andrew is feature on it more than a few times. Just letting you all know.
