We extolled the virtues of Marnie Stern’s This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That (out 10/7 via KRS) when we posted “Transformer” and “Shea Stadium.” Three’s a charm, so check out “Ruler” at Marnie’s MySpace. (Thanks for the tip, Jon.) Fittingly, it rules.

That was irritating. I got about 25 seconds into it before I had to turn it off. It most certainly didn’t rule.
Are you kidding me. Based on the songs I have heard from the new album it is in the running for album of the year. No question.
Tension and release…The best one yet! You hear that fucking HOOK the first time and then you’re left guessing exactly when it’s gonna come back while all the other amazing shit happens. Avant pop. Sugar and Spikes.
HOT DAMN! I like what I hear. How could anyone not love the power of this amazing track.
Just because something sounds annoying doesn’t mean it’s experimental, and just because something sounds complicated doesn’t mean it has a lot of talent or creativity behind it. I’ll give Stern credit for not sounding like anyone else, but I can’t imagine why an artist who seems to be going for quirky more than confrontational, would choose to make music so headache-inducing. This doesn’t sound much different than the last album, which was impressive only in how consistently Stern could milk one-note screaming over hammer-ons.

Anybody digging this breakfast cereal euphoria might wanna look up Juana Molina.
I got her free new song “Un Dia” yesterday. (To think she started off in sketch comedy!) It sounds to me like the same Kool-Aid taking effect on the other side of the equator. Yesterday was a good day new music wise indeed.
