The ever troubled Stone Temple Revolver singer lets the internet in on some sounds from his (partially) Steve Albini produced solo record today. According to Blabbermouth, the track “Paralysis” was co-written with No Doubt dudes Adrian Young, Tony Kanal, and Tom Dumont (with Adrian on drums). That might explain why its pop sounds so fit for a Cali beach, and also why it’s the best thing we’ve heard from the guy since his Velvet landmine. Worth a listen, over at spin.com.

Happy In Galoshes will be out 11/25 on Scott’s Softdrive label.

  1. “the best thing we’ve heard from the guy since his Velvet landmine.”

    Not exactly an endorsement.

i know people are going to talk a lot of shit, and probably rightfully so, but his first solo album was pretty solid.

I think most would Scott Weiland kind of sucks and that his best days as an artiste are certainly behind him. Not trying to hate too much Christian, I was never really a big fan of STP since the Purple album. But the real question is what has happened to Steve Albini? He sort of sucks too. I’m not sure why i bothered writing this comment. I feel like I have nothing nice to say about these two. I will say the new TV on the Radio is pretty rad. C’mon stereogum, let’s focus on good bands instead of that sad-ass, has-been Weiland

    • Steve Albini is as good as ever at engineering. It’s not his fault if the artists he works with make bad albums (since he’s not a “producer”). At least they will be great-sounding bad albums. (Such as “Razorblade Suitcase.”) But if you’re looking for great albums he’s worked on recently, check out “Ys” and everything he’s done with Nina Nastasia.

  4. Meh. It’s like watered down STP minus the great hooks. Still, it kicks the crap out of the new Chris Cornell.

“Listen to the first leak from the Stone Temple Pilots singer’s ‘long-awaited’ new solo album, Happy in Galoshes.” how this a leak when posted by Spin and Stereogum? and who has been waiting?

me, motherfucker! i have been waiting on PINS & NEEDLES, playing my worn out copy of ’12 bar blues’ over and over for the last ten years. got-damn, i can’t wait to spin the shit out of his new joint! shit’s gonna be bumpin, yo! my girl’s already wet just thinking of his songwriting genius. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

To riff on the former Black Randy and the Metro Squad album title – “Pass the Junk I think I’m Bowie”

He thought he was Bowie on 12 Bar Blues, too. I must say, I am digging this. Scott always could write great pop songs.

  10. I dug the last solo album. “Your Roof Brings Me Down” and “Divider” were as good as anything he did with STP. I’ll give the new album a listen. I’m just happy he’s not in Velvet Revolver anymore.

“Paralysis” sounds great. I might need to hear Missing Cleveland a few times before I make up my mind on it. Scott is easily the best and most talented singer/songwriter to come along in the last 20 years. His music is timeless and he will be a success in his career regardless of which band (or not) he belongs to. Even Elvis and the Beatles had haters…

Ignore the mediocre lyrics and modern rock production, and you’ve got a pretty successful late-70s Bowie knockoff. I enjoyed this in spite of my own snobbery.

  13. This is one hot video!!
