More great Beach House. Lately the Baltimore duo have been giving us new songs and revamped oldies via trains and automobiles, but this dose comes from the studio. Alex and Victoria have taped a new single “Used To Be,” to be joined by a 4-track version of the debut’s “Apple Orchard” on a 7″ out next month. Since the song’s coming in this stand-alone format, it may not be fair to think of it as a prelude to the next Beach House record. Regardless, “Used To Be” continues the Beach House-to-Devotion trajectory, seeing the pair take another small step out of the debut’s heavy-lidded haze (see: the tambourine upfront, Victoria’s vocal commanding all attention) and into something that may eventually shake the narcotic/dreamy adjectives. That said, this melody is so dreamy.

Lovely. Beach House’s “Used to Be” 7″ is out 10/21 via Carpark. The b-side will feature a four-track demo version of Beach House‘s “Apple Orchard.” A reminder of that album’s charms:

That Beach House photo comes from their breakout set at CMJ ’06, and this one below comes from the 7″ cover.

CD review: Air
tornadic vocals from Beach House siren Victoria Legrand). Even creepier is “Who Am I Now?”—breathy, vaguely ominous vocals from Brooklyn indie-popsters Au Revoir Simone, trembling strings and a waltz tempo combine to create a nightmarish lullaby.
Stream Air's 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune'
The album is actually double the run time of the 14-minute film, but that's because Air have Beach House's Victoria Legrand and Au Revoir Simone on a couple tracks. Stream it over here. Le Voyage Dans La Lune is due out on Feb. 7.

  6. Has anyone ripped to .mp3 yet?

  7. This has a nice timeless feeling to it. The feeling is a much needed one for music these days. Where has all the timeless music gone? Who will write more of it other than Beach House?
